Your Admiration For Single Parent Families

Of course both deserve admiration for raising a child on their own, but I've been wondering this for a while. I know which I find more admirable but I want to hear other peoples views. If you can, really think about your answer before voting because I would really like you to choose between the two. It doesn't mean you have any less respect/admiration for the other single parent.

Hmm I find this a very hard question to answer, honestly.
I think it depends on the sex of the child. I mean... if it's a girl I find it "harder" for a single father to raise their daughters. I mean... You all know how fathers are, they're overprotective of their daughters and girls get their girl-problems and a father... I dunno, I guess it's harder for a father to explain a girl how to deal with their girl-issues.
I think it's easier for women to raise their kids on their own, no matter if the kid is a boy or a girl. I think it's something... I don't know, I think women can adept easier... I don't know, I think both deserve just as much of respect and admiration, because raising kids is not easy when you're together, let alone when you're alone.

I'm not saying that any parent deserves any less than the other but I always find it a bit more admirable when a father raises his children on his own. I suppose because it has been/is a society where it's always the mother you think of who keeps the kids it's nice to see fathers witht hem instead sometimes.

I think I'm going to need to think more before I vote. I agree with you both that in our society the single parent is usually seen as a woman, and maybe they do adapt better to it and find it easier to cope. But I wouldn't say that I admired single fathers anymore than single mothers just because they are less common.

I voted single father, no doubt its hard for both, but I do believe its harder for men bringing up children alone. Society expects women to be the main carer for children, and this impacts in practical ways like nappy change facilities in public toilets are often located in the women's not the men's.
