What I would suggest is to stop cleaning it with anything but sea-salt diluted in water. Anything else just aggravates piercings. Saline solution is the best (and so i've heard the only) thing to clean piercings with.
To make your own saline: boil water, and put about 1/4 of a tea-spoon of sea-salt in with a cup of boiled water. Use cotton-buds to wipe the solution around the piercing but after you've cleaned the piercing make sure you don't leave it wet. I'd suggest cleaning it twice a day or more regular if you feel the need. And clean it if you've just been swimming or done exercise.
I wouldn't suggest wearing tight clothing when you have a new navel piercing but if it's your job then there's not a lot you can do. Just clean it after a you finish work i guess and let it get as much air as possible.
Don't mess with the piercing too much. Try not to move the bar around. And don't ever take the jewellery out if the piercing looks infected as this can trap the infection into the skin (and someone else said).
I'd suggest going to get it checked out at a reliable piercing studio if your worried.

When i had my belly button pierced it got infected but i follwed the guidelines, on mine a red lump formed just underneath the piercing but i kept bathing it and eventually it went away, and this is supposedly something common.. and to those who would like to know whether it hurts, i didn't think it did, when i went to get it i done was petrified and then it didn't hurt at all, i have loads of piercings and my belly button hurt least of all!

In my case I would compare the pain to when you take off a band-aid.. it hurts but it is so fast that when you want to react to the pain, it's already gone.
and as for the infection issue the best thing I can say> go to a doctor and do NOT mess with it

K, I have one and mine has no problem. The guy who did mine said ONLY clean it with Dial Soap, twice a day.. and move it back and forth (even if it hurts) a few times so it doesnt get nasty and stuck. (Also, only do it in the shower after you've done everything else.) Don't play it with it because it could get more infected.
Hope I helped.

Hey. I had my belly button done almost a year ago, and today I took it out. It has never healed properly, (this is gonna be gross but bear with me) It was always secreting plasma, and never stopped. I tried saline stuff, antiseptic stuff, using titanium bars (coz they're hypoallergenic), cleaning it with water every hour when it was hot, and its just never gone right. So I've taken mine out, and I'll let it heal and get it done again. On the other hand, didn't hurt a bit. The peircer will dot two dots on you showing you where it will be, then they'll stick a (you know those things you put in cooler boxes, after keeping them in the freezer?) well, they'll stick one of those on your belly for about 5min (thats the worse bit), then they have these clamps with lots of elastic bands around the top to pinch them tight. They'll line the clamps up with the dots and pinch your skin, then they just stick a big needle through, tell you to expect a pinch, actually thinking about it, the worse bit was one the pericer tightened it up, coz she twisted it in the skin, and it was a fresh peircing with hurt a bit. But other than that, its a very simple peircing. I have a new peircing now, the webbing of my tongue. I love it so much! My favourite peircing, i love them lol. Hope this helps someone! lmao xx

I will never going to have a piercing!! I'm really nervous about this thing. I'm terrified about needles!! Don't you feel afraid if someone pulls it but not in purpose? Ugh!!*Getting nervous*

You only have to be careful while its healing. If it gets pulled while its still healing you can rip it, and cause teh percings to heal off-centre. once its healed, you can pull twist and all sorts and it doesnt hurt, honestly, my border collie is manic and teh times shes nearly pulled it out but it didnt hurt. I used to be scared of needles, and refused to look at one. Until a doctor suggested I actually watch them withdraw some blood from my arm, and once I saw the needle go in, and I realised I couldn't feel it, I've never been scared since. I think because I never used to watch I used to imagine the pain.
