I was just not impressed...I'm from the south,...and their accents were laughable to me...Renee's was passable...and she's from Texas!!!
But I'm just obsessive like that...

i don't like it. and this is becasue this movie was made specifically to win oscars. It has everything the Academy likes. from the cast, crew to the plot. These movies just make me yawn.

Im avoiding this so I don't have to bear Renee trying to look 16 and pouting like an abandoned three legged puppy. Anthony Minghella and Nicole Kidman are beginning to sink in my eyes, they're becoming Oscar wh*res...

I liked the book better than the movie. Charles Frazier's writing is pretty unique. Some of my favorite parts couldn't have been put in a film... unless you wanted a narrator.
Say what you will about the movie, but the story is ace. It's refreshing, yet disturbing, to see the injustices of the Civil War brought into a story, the home guard beign vigilante criminals, soldiers raping women, women coping with loss and learning how to adjust to living on their own.
And I think Rene did an awesome job with the character Ruby. It was just as the part was written.

fortunately it isn't up for best film ... i think the real problem will be "Mystic River" which I haven't seen. Best picture nominees: ROTK, Mystic River, Master and Commander, Lost in Translation, Seabiscuit.
I personally liked the film, but not Nicole's acting ... she has done better. Renee on the other hand stole the show, in my opinion.

The only reason I am going to see it is to see Jack White.
Even though Jude Law is dead sexy.

| Nichole had less to work with, though. I've always seen Ada as a rather 2-dimensional character.

Ok I just came back from the theater! It was great! I saw Cold Mountain, and I loved it! It was a beautiful story, sad and romantic !! Jude Law was gorgeously hot and he has some amazing eyes!! Renée Zellwegger was such a funny character , and Nicole Kidman did a great job, I'm not disapointed at all! Even Nathalie Portman did a great job in her lil part !!! Want to have a good time?! Go and see it!!
