Harry Potter - The Musical?

The Sunday Mirror is reporting this morning that a Harry Potter-themed musical is currently in the works. To open in London's West End, the article says producers are working on several script ideas and believe it has huge potential:
"The difficulty is condensing the seven books into a manageable show. They are exploring various ideas. One possibility is to tell the whole story. Another is to just take a single plot."
While very interesting, the Sunday Mirror says that producers hope to have the show open next year. Unless this musical has been in the works for some time, there is very little chance that it could open in only 1 - 2 years time. So with that, put this in the "very very big rumor" category for now until more whispers start floating around.
I've just read this on mugglenet.com - wouldn't a Harry Potter musical be amazing? If they can do it with LOTR, I bet they can do it with Harry Potter!

I thought you'd get excited about this, but don't forget its only a rumour for now.....fingers crossed! Hope it doesn't go down the track of HighSchool Musical, that's be too bad for words.

at all! that type of movies are so something else..and anyways..what kind of movie or musical will it be? I realized I know nothing about it being musical?  I never think about what I'm saying

I must say, I am a big fan of Harry Potter. but I'm afraid that turning it into a musical seems like a silly idea. We already have the books, & the movies, I think trying to cut it down & turn it all into singing, dancing, and music would ruin it a bit.

interesting cos they did the same with lotr didnt they, though I didnt want to see it prefer the films and books personally
