there may not be much to listen to if you want to hear elijah. so far it's mostly john and music. there was a little bit of elijah at the beginning of the show, and he seemed to be reading from a script.
but for those who want to reminisce about john there's plenty to hear.

It was very much a Peel tribute, lovely to listen to. I listened the whole way through to the show last night and Elijah definately didn't say too much! Elijah called him 'incomparable' and 'the greatest music broadcaster of all time'. The bit I liked was at the beginning, he said: 'I'm not here as someone who knew John, or appeared on his show, or had his label supported by John. I'm here, like you, as a listener, as a fan, as someone whose musical horizons were expanded by him, and as someone who misses being able to turn on the radio to hear those scary new noises and that familiar friendly voice.' At the end, he said how much everyone misses John. And what John Peel tribute would be complete without 'Teenage Kicks', quite possibly the most famous thing to ever come from derry, northern ireland?!

It’s such a tragedy that John Peel died at the age of 65; broadcasters with his talent are rare indeed. He appealed (apeeled?!) to listeners of all ages, too – he also hosted a ‘human interest’ type show on BBC Radio 4 that my Mum enjoyed. Incidentally, that track John accidentally broadcast at the wrong speed sounded just as awful at the correct speed!!
From an Elijah-fan point of view, it’s great that he was given the honour of introducing this tribute, but a little disappointing that it was just that, introducing, not hosting. Ah well, I can but hope that maybe one day Radio 1 will give Elijah an entire programme to himself…..
I wonder if Elijah had any say in which tracks were featured in the tribute?
maryd - I love those words in your sig: "Beauty captures your attention, Personality captures your heart" - so very true!

I wouldn't say I was disappointed as such, maybe just surprised - I did think Elijah would be saying more. It did sound quite rehearsed - I wonder if he even wrote what he said, or whether it came from someone else's pen.
Plutonic- thanks! Thats my motto!

it was definitely a script, but not by his hands. probably written by the staff.

i don't know if anyone will get to hear this but at this very moment there is a rebroadcast of a 2 hour show elijah hosted as DJ on indie 103.1 FM radio in LA. it was originally broadcast live earlier in the day.
http://indie1031.com/4045_Listen_Live.php?id=27
if you've missed it, maybe there will be another broadcast or even a transcript.

I completely missed hearing about this until it was too late, not that I can get that radio station anyway. I hope someone gets a transcript. Did anyone catch it?

you're welcome. elijah is in england to promote OM and in support for a heloise show, so there was discussion about that among other fun things. music of course was a topic.
if you still want to listen to the show, you can download it here.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/jamesking/080408_elijah_wood_int.mp3
just right click, save target as, to your hard drive.
thanks to karin for the link.
