Actually Blue Star you make a very good point. I was a Brendan Fraser fan for years because of his role in Gods and Monsters, but when he continued to play in mainstream kiddy type movies I got SO bored with his choices.
But then I discovered LOTR and Elijah and I must say that I feel so proud of Elijah's choices. They are so different and challenging for him and I always find myself looking forward to seeing his new movies rather than dreading them, like I did with Brendan. Oh no! Not another Looney Tunes, George of the Jungle, Dudley-Do-Right, Monkeybone - dumbass movie!! Nooooooo!
I know it sounds cliche but Elijah really is a thinking-woman's pin up boy!

Quote from: wabbit on July 10, 2006, 07:47:17 pm Unfortunately, I just visited the IMDb listing for this film, and its status is no longer "in production" -- it has gone back to "unknown". *sigh* So, all this discussion may be for nothing. My fingers are still crossed that it happens -- and with Elijah -- though.
|
i just checked, and on elijah's page it states "in production." but if you click over to the film it states "unknown" but goes on to say "since this project is categorized as being in production, the data..."
i don't know. maybe it is in production, but they don't have any info as to what stage of the production the film is in. *shrugs*

And I have a small suggestion for those who are constantly dismayed with Elijah's movie choices as being "strange" and unconventional. Stop being an Elijah fan, and start obsessing over Orlando Bloom and the likes.
HEY...What do you say?:( I like beautiful man. Elijah is my favorite type pretty boy. I like johnny depp. However, orlando bloom? Why? Hes not my favorite type.

She just means that Orlando makes more conventional or perhaps more boring film choices than Elijah does, so if people don't like Elijah's choices in film roles they would probably be more happy following Orlando's career.

I thought Iggy pop was cool strange role. I like it. BUT, I dont think this role is cool strangeness. Do many fandom ppl praise this role why? Many ppl misunderstood "Strangeness"?
I hope for cool "Strangeness" to him. However, such "Strangeness" role...I hate.
Because he is Einstein....His beard will grow up. 25 years old Einstein has good beard... it will not become cool. When He shaved his head...many people hated it. However, this role to have a mustache might be worse. lol
Tobey Maguire refused this role. He is only a substitute of Tobey Maguire. In my opinion, Elijah looks like young piccaso. Tobey Maguire looks like young Einshtin. Elijah is not like young Einshtin.
TOBEY MAGUIRE hated this role, and did not receive the offer. Do you want to see ELIJAH in such a role? I am NO.
And, Ryan Philippe does a younger role. He might be piccaso.
piccaso is 23 years old. Einshtin is 25 years old. Elijah is 25 years old, and ryan is 33 years old. Tobey is 30 years old.
If elijah is a substitute of spider man, I give it up. However, it is strange in this role that he is a substitute.

Hmmm... very interesting. I hope we hear more news about this soon and that elijah himself will discuss this soon enough during other movie promotions.

while listening to john noble speak at ELF, he made a very good point. it's not that you look like the person who you are portraying, but the manner in which you take on that person. mannerisms make the difference. it's always a challenge to bring that out and i admire elijah for doing roles like this. whether it be picasso, einstien or iggy pop, there should be that kind of resemblance to go on.
did that make sense? it's early here.
ETA: looks like elijah WILL play einstein. i don't read spanish very well, but this article was translated and he says not only is the movie a go, but he'll play einstein.

See if this link will get you in:
http://www.lanacion.com.ar/Archivo/nota.asp?nota_id=825781&aplicacion_id=12
If not, maybe I could copy/paste the relevant portion, or something?
BTW, I know someone who already translated it, but they are not a native speaker. If it's easier, I could post that text here.
