The truth is, as much as we may like the actors, Peter Jackson is those movies. Why is The Lord of the Rings trilogy so great? Because Peter is a fan of the books, and so a fan made the films. And now, if they are to choose any other director, Steven Spielberg for example (this is not a statement of his character he was just the first name I could think of that is universally known) he would just think 'Well, this obviously has a fanbase, I'm gonna make a fortune out of this I'LL DO IT!' and that is not the kind of person you want making The Hobbit, Peter didn't do it for money, yes I'm sure he won't be needing a personal loan anytime soon and I'm sure he's greatful of that fact, but he did it because he is fan.

Yes. I'm agree with you, Sipa. The Lord of the Rings isn't the same without Peter. And I don't think the actors will be a part of the film without Peter as the director And without Peter and the LotR cast, the film will not be good at all, I think...

I sure love Peter Jackson's vision of Middle Earth and the whole cast was just right in my eyes. After watching all three movies and all the behind-the-scenes stuff I really felt like part of the family. I don't know if that can be repeated.
But I think it would be bad if Peter virtually had the monopoly on LotR movies. No doubt there are people out there with just as much passion and skill.
I've always wondered. If Peter Jackson did so not do it for the money, why did New Line and himself fall out over... the money? I just don't get it. Was he trying to make a point - small director against big evil contract-breaking film studio? Or did he want to cash off more because of the huge financial success for the studio?
Anyway, I will watch new versions of LotR whoever will direct them. No prejudices! I have seen the old animated movies too - and liked them.

To make a prequel without PJ's involvement doesn't seem to show any good business sense. Being a HUGE fan of the books, I resisted seeing the movies initially. Silly me...thought they would have changed everything I loved in the books. So when I finally saw the movies in 2006 I missed all the fun and excitement of each installment.
I am kinda hoping New Line will just bite the bullet and let an outside auditor look at the books. I mean...if they didn't do anything wrong...then what are the worried about?
I would love to see the LOTR prequel and maybe even the Hobbit in the theaters this time. Here's hoping!

But I'm not good at waiting for things so I'm kind of glad that when I did come to watch them, the Extended DVD Editions were all there waiting for me - I didn't have to hold my breath until the next film came out.
I don't really understand the whole falling-out between Peter Jackson and New Line (can anyone explain?) but maybe there's a principle at stake here. If he's owed even £5 and they're not paying up I admire him for sticking to his guns.
And I can't imagine Middle Earth on-screen without PJ. He'd be a very tough act to follow and only someone very brave or very foolish would attempt it.

It's too soon for thinking about doing LOTR again. The trilogy is now a classic and should not be remake.
Are the Star Wars fans are thinking of making the original trilogy again? No. Because the original trilogy became a classic and this year, the first Star Wars movie is celebrating its 30th Anniversary.

Hi
I will only watch "the hobbit" if Peter Jackson is director and if not I just won't watch it.
I didn't know they were also thinking of remaking lotr, this is complete news to me. But if they are, they shouldn't it stands on it's own as the greatest trilogy of all time. It should stay that way aswell..
well, that's my opinion on this subject.
