Ya know, I am not really sure
but it seems to mean literally what it says, Bee cake. Did any of you see the limited editional t-shirts they were selling on their MySpace account? They were a really cute picture of a bee and a cupcake. Isn't that cute?
I think there group used to be called Angel something or other. So maybe someone else know why they changed names and if there was a deeper reason behind the switch. At least, I hope so!

They changed the name probably because they realised there was already another band by that name. Beecake should be original enough!
The name actually came from Dom, according to this (from some Billy interview):
"'The name came from Dom, who played my Hobbit pal Merry. He was on holiday in Spain and he was sending photos on the internet of where he was and what he was up to. One he sent me was in a bakery and there was this big cake covered in bees. He said that people were going in and buying a slice of cake and just scraping the bees off. The bees were alive and going mad. So he sent me a picture and he called it 'Beecake.' I immediately thought it was a cool name for the band. The only problem is that people get confused and call us Beefcake."

Haha yes I've actually heard people call them Beefcake on Myspace before, that's what confusion is all about though.

Awww, so cute that the guys are still such good friends. According to the Scottish Sun, there's a chance Lijah might turn up for the gig (if he's not too busy / filming obviously):
Come On Down For Hobbit Of Hot Rock!
Movie hobbit Billy Boyd has invited Hollywood pals Jude Law, Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood to Scotland to watch his band's first gig. The LOTR star is the latest actor to have a stab at becoming a rocker. His band Beecake make their debut at Glasgow's Barfly on Jan 26. And Billy, who played Pippin in the trilogy, is making sure the audience is star studded.
The dad of one regularly has hunky Law, Bloom and Wood up for boozy pub crawls in Glasgow. He said, "I've asked Jude, Orlando and Elijah up again. They've all heard the music already and they like it. They've got Beecake t-shirts already. I've been so busy on the film Glenn in Belgium that I've hardly had time to tell people that we're doing our first gig. I'll be sending out an invite to all my pals but the guestlist is filling up fast."

Hee hee....you are sooo right, Veronica! Dream Big!
Have you ever heard that song? It is called Dream Big by Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband. Ok...stop laughing at that name....I know I chuckled away about it too. The words are great...and I like the sound. You can hear part of it hear http://downloads.walmart.com/swap/ and the chorus here http://www.gohastings.com/Catalog/Item/Item.asp?prodid=189829993
You are probably laughing at my lack of technical skills...but that is the only way I can find the song all together. See...that is what happens when you get a little older...hee hee!

For those of you interested, they just announced over at Creation that Billy's band 'Beecake' will be playing at this years ORC!
Also, Billy is an official guest along with David Wenham and Andy Serkis. No Elijah, but not a bad line-up!
