The Untold Story (11 page LotR article from Empire)

An 11 page article I found by chance today in Media studies. I tore the pages out and brought them home to scan in. And I thought that you guys would like to see it. I've not yet read it all myself, though I have flicked through.
Get your reading hats on, this is a long one.
I cropped it down into (hopefully) readable chunks. Things should flow smoothly on from each other. If they don't, I'm sorry. I spent ages scanning, cropping and uploading these. So I hope you all enjoy it.
From January 2005 edition of Empire magazine.
The Lord of the Rings - The Untold Story.
So, this is farewell. With the final DVD release, Rings is about to pass into myth. Empire pulls up a stool to the fireside to hear the cast and crew recount the making of motion picture history.

Wow! Taf what a lot of effort you put into this!!! I've been enjoying it and with my situation (being housebound today! ugh!) I thank you and hats off to you..In the end pages with the actors afterward.... I just hope Elijah catches up to Orlando.. not that I don't wish Orlando good fortunes and all that but I think Elijah is just as good if not a better actor than Orlando(uh oh!!! did I say something I shouldn't have?! it's just one little person's opinion and leave it at that.... everyone is entitled right?... I just have to admit it I'm an Elijah fan ...please noone take it personal...no offense to O )

I'm so glad you scanned the article in Taf, I bought the magazine but I don't have access to a scanner at all and so I have been thinking of a way to show everyone the article (I could have typed it up but it's a long article and there would be no pictures) so it's wonderful that you scanned it in. Well done!!

what a long article. but thanks again for doing this for us tafika.
i liked "the journeys end." but i think they stiffed dom and sean a bit there. i hope lij doesn't get as big as orli. sorry frodomyhero. i like lij just the way he is. crowned king at last. that's good enough for me.

Thank you so much Tafika!! That was a great read. What I thought was the most interesting that I didn't know about at all was more into why Stuart Townsend was fired from the part of Aragorn. He was portraying in his behavior and his personality, the opposite of what the cast members have done so well, having fun with their tasks and experiences and enjoying the ride. It was sad that he was so stressed out and didn't have sight of why he was there. Like, for the first time I can see definite contrast between the actors' deep integrity and well being, and how the LOTR members fit so well into it that you can't imagine anyone like Stuart Townsend being any successful in the journey, and on screen as fluid and real as say Viggo and Elijah and Dom and Billy and the rest. Long rant there. Sean was great to talk about that. And in the Final Rings Things, I had no idea that John-Rhys Davies auditioned for Denethor!! Or Sean's dad John Astin auditioned for Gandalf!!!! That is so wierd!!! Amazing. I thought that The Journey's End part was disappointing for me that they had to compare the actors' upcoming movie grabs and stardom popularity against eachother, because it's not about individual egotism of the actors, which in that segment they tried to get across as essential. And I love Viggo even more when I read more about him, and I wish I could be more like Peter Jackson and Viggo as open-minded perfectionists and never losing sight on their real purpose and their production, and they never made it into being about them. I'm always amazed most with Peter's enginuity and ingenius personality, because he ultimately made the movies as good as we are obsessed with them. Man I'm sorry, I must get it from listening in the backround to SAG Award winners ranting on and on and on before they shut up and sit down. Sorry for that.

Thanks Tafika! I finally finished it(took a couple days ) It was very interesting! It did seem unfair to compare actors that way in the chart. Elijah's should go up with all his new movies this year. Dom's should go up now that he has a hit show. Lol at Fran and Philippa for the tight pants story about Viggo! I'm glad Peter listened. I enjoyed reading it! Thanks for posting!
