Bleepers - Bloopers

Ultimate Rings DVDs could include cut scenes and bloopers
[from Coming Attractions in USA Today]

Peter Jackson is deep into mega-monkey shines as production continues on his redo of King Kong at his home base of Wellington, New Zealand.

But once the great ape tale is unveiled Dec. 14, he has some unfinished Lord of the Rings business to tend to such as an ultimate DVD collection of the extended versions of the Oscar-winning trilogy, not likely to arrive in stores for another two or three years.

"We really don't have a definitive plan," he says during a brief break on the Kong set. Just don't expect Jackson to edit together the three epic-length features into a single, 11-hour-long fantasia.

"I don't want to add more footage," Jackson says. "There's as much in there as we want. Eventually you are just going to go backward and weaken the films." Instead, he would prefer to simply show the unused deleted scenes (and, yes, there are more than a few leftovers) and explain why they were cut.

The Rings master also would like to include feature-length documentaries, put together by longtime associate Costa Botes, on the making of the movies. "There are no commentary or interviews. It's like a reality TV show," Jackson says.

The largest still-untapped source of amusement are the bloopers or "bleepers," as Jackson calls them. The flubs previously were shown only during private farewell tributes for major cast members as they took their leave of Middle-earth.

I'd love to see those bloopers..!! My question however is: Why didn't PJ include these Bloopers first time round?

Money? Or another reason? What do you think?

Yeah, probably money...
Maybe they saved that part for when all the dvd's were out...that way they'll still have an income or something
I don't care though...i'd buy anything they want

You're welcome Vero.

If PJ does bring out new DVDs with Bloopers, then I imagine they would probably be available on the internet for download and unless there were a lot of new things on those DVDs, I don't think I would buy them again but that's just me.

If it is about money, then it's quite sad really. Haven't they made enough already?

Yeah I think it's probably for money. However I also can't wait for the blooper DvD. Well, before that I must get all the LOTR DVDs

Somehow, I'm not sure if money was the issue.. PJ is a pretty budget-conscious man, as far as I can tell, and I think he's smart enough to know that he doesn't need to milk this stuff for more money. (However, I'm not sure New Line shares this outlook...)

It could have been time. We know he hurried to put the EE DVD together, because he was getting ready to start King Kong. So maybe he just didn't have enough time to edit all the endless hours (because we know there are) of bleepers together.

But, at the same time, we know how giddy Peter can get. Perhaps he WANTS to make us wait; to keep us interested, and keep the whole LotR fandom going. I can picture him now, giggling manically in his house as we wait patiently for those elusive bleepers.

Who knows. I know I'd probably buy another edition with extra extras.. lol, I wouldn't need them, but I know I'f still buy them.

I'm confused, , are you guys talking about the Extended versions of LOTR or are you talking about a different DVD altogether?

Hey, come out... come out.. wherever you are...

A blooper is an embarrassing mistake, a blunder, a boo-boo, in this case, one that occurs in movies like Lord of the Rings, much like this one...

or when the actors forget their lines, props fall apart, or just general silliness to break the tension on set.
