Yes, I am aware that Peter is scheduled to film The Lovely Bones next.  I wasn't expecting The Hobbit to be his next project.  So, that doesn't discourage me in any way regarding the prospects of him taking on the challenges posed by filming The Hobbit.

Guess I'll jump in here with my two cents.  I don't think any studio would be dumb enough to try to make "The Hobbit" without PJ as director -- and filming in NZ.

PJ wants to do it and many of the LOTR cast have said they'll take any part that is offered to them.

The hitch is the rights.  One movie studio has the rights to MAKE the film and another has the rights for DISTRIBUTION.

Frankly, I think they should quit putzing around and get together because there's a ton of money to made for all concerned if the film can happen.

I am very angry that Time Warner didn't bid high enough to out bid Sony for the purchase of MGM!!  Now the distribution rights belong to Sony, and the rights to make the film belong to Peter Jackson, who I presume, would like to make The Hobbit with New Line (Time Warner).

WHAT A MESS!!

On top of all of that, The Hobbit needs to be made before Sir Ian McKellen has a hard time looking the same, if not younger, than he does in the LOTR.  No, Gandalf doesn't have to look younger, but he mustn't look older, you know.

Thanks for your "two cents" Yeux!  It's similar to what I wrote on the last page.  But, I believe that Peter owns the right to make the film.  I read in the same article that said Sony won the bid last year, that he could choose to make it with Sony and forgo all of the complications of working with two studios.  BUT I don't think he will abandon New Line like that.  They took a big chance on him in the beginning.

Oh Sweetest, I hope you're right about PJ holding one of the rights.  And I hope he doesn't shut out New Line.  The chance they took on him and LOTR was nothing short of miraclulous and I wish he would stay with New Line.  They and PJ's crew all know each other now and it would make everything go much more smoothly.

I kinda have my heart set on it, Yeux!  I really want this movie to be made, and I want it to be at least as good as the trilogy.  If Peter can make some aspects of it better, then more power to him!  And, yes, New Line is amazing!  They deserve to be a part of this project if/when it gets done.

Let's go to the Prayer thread and start a prayer campaign for The Hobbit to be made!!!

Yeux!  I'm very confused now.  I have seen an article that says that Peter Jackson owns the right to make The Hobbit, AND, I have seen an article that says that New Line owns the right to make it.  I can only find one of them, but I am positively sure I read the other one also.

Anyway, I sure hope Peter owns it because, not only would New Line have a problem working things out with Sony, but now Peter is suing New Line over profits from FOTR and, possibly, the rest of the trilogy.

I repeat, WHAT A MESS!!!

Well, Sweetest, you're not the only one who's confused.  I am, too.  I guess we'll just have to wait until more is written about the rights situation. *sighs*

Here's some news about the making of THE HOBBIT

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,12523941%255E1702,00.html

But I don't know. somehow I have this fear that what if this film doen't turn out to be as good as LOTR because most of the time a sequel/prequel doesn't turn out to be as good as expected just like The Matrix trilogy. I hope I may be proved wrong by Mr. Jackson.

If Peter does "The Hobbit" I don't think you have to worry about it not being as good.  I have every faith in him to do a fantastic job.  And the CGI possibilities just keep getting better and better.  It should be awesome!

Funny, I was watching some of that new Star Wars hype on TV, seeing how the Star Wars obsession keeps living on.
And then I remembered, Peter is making The Hobbit!
I think it's going to be fantastic. More familiar to me to watch than Lord of the Rings by far, because I've read The Hobbit twice and I've only read Lord of the Rings after I saw the movies. This one's going to be very close to me.

I'm wondering, will they be able to make Ian Holm look young enough to be a believable Bilbo in the past? Because he's getting old. Other than that, I have no doubt that if they have regular cast people (and good new ones of course) this movie will be amazing!!

They could still use Andy Serkis/CGI Gollum, but let's face it, the others will really be too old.  Look at all the wonderful people PJ came up with for the LOTR films -- people the majority of us had never heard of.  He can do it again for "The Hobbit."  I'd love it if he made it with new people.
