Oh lord, now you've done it!
There's no way I can pick just five. Here's the list.
1) Ayn Rand (A political writer-Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged) 2) Stephen King (We all know) 3) Phillip Pullman (The Golden Compass) 4) J.K. Rowling (Again, we all know) 5) All of my favorite poets-Poe, Frost, the Rossetties, Whitman, Blake, ect. ect 6) Shakespeare 7) Who wrote Artemis's Foul? Yeah, that's good.
Homer (READ the Illiad and Oddessey!)
I am so sorry I had so many. Anyway, those are my favorites, but George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, L.J. Smith, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Plato (the Republic ROCKED) and Jane Austen definately deserve a noteable spot.

My five favourite authors...Mmm.. A just question my lord..
1. Bernard Werber. (french one.) 2. R.A. Salvatore. (for the Dark Elf Trilogy. the best fantasy book after Tolkien.) 3. Pearl Buck. 4. Edward S. Curtis. (yes, more a photograph than a writer, but he translated so much American Indian Stories, legends, and Myths.) 5. Michael Ende. (for his wonderful "The Neverending Story")
But there are so much more in reality..

I like murder plots and so on, so i like people like Dean Koontz, and Patricia Cornwell, i LOVE horror and black humour... Who else better than Stephen King? And of coarse, i could never forget Tolkine's LOTR!

Irvine Welsh...i totally forgot about him...'trainspotting' among others...i'll have to think about the others, but most do sound familiar, and i honestly think De Sade is the best of the best, but it's all good

| lets see, i know numbers 1, 4, and 7, and i've really only read 4. since you really like Palalhniuk and Ballard, i suggest you read Jeff Noon, an author i've only recently gotten into. he's very very good!!
