Hello there.

I've a passion to be a writer but the problem is I don't where and how to start. So, I wonder if you guys can help me to write. I've thousands of stories to write, but you know........

P/S: Please don't ask me to read books from professionals on how to write because it never seems to work for me.    I'll not be around for some days but please do send some advice for me on how to write because I'll check it as soon s I come back.

Thank you.

Hey,

Well, a simple exercise would be to take a sheet of blank paper and basically write down everything and anything that comes into your mind, like what you're thinking or what you're observing. Do that till you reach like half of the page, then stop. Don't worry about mistakes and all that. You just want to see what or how much you can get on paper. A very good way of writing, is to use long hand. Its slower than typing but you can get alot out that way.

Good Luck!

Stream-of-conciousness writing (like what azea described) is a widely used method, so try it.

My main hint would be to write lots of stuff without initially worrying about a finished story, or the quality of your work. Just writing for the sake of writing, so you get into the habit of it, it allows you to experiment and figure out what works and what doesn't. And then when you've built up your skills a bit, start working on one of your stories.

My other hint is to make sure you're in an environment conducive to writing. For example, I can never write creatively when I'm sitting at my home office space because I'm so used to doing actual work here instead (like producing schedules, reading over hire contracts and so on)... it's just not my creative space. I prefer to write when I'm sitting on my armchair in the loungeroom or sitting on my bed listening to music. A lot of the time I work better writing with pen and paper than I do with a computer. But the main thing is to experiment until you find which method helps you produce the best work.

Hi! Thanks for your responds.    I really appreciate those ideas.
And, I'm still waiting for other people to give their own ideas about this matter.

I think I'm going to write a short story first since I've many unfinished stories. Hmmm......, what should I write?

I think there is something along the line of this subject in the "Book" section called "If You Are Writing A Book Or Planning To". I know cause I have posted several time there. SO if you need advice I think you can get a bunch more there.

Good one Scroll! I was wondering where I should move this thread to. So since this is about writing, I'm putting this in the Book section.

if you get the writing thing down, and it's a matter of putting ideas together to make a story, i think i can help there.

what i do is work in the manner of a movie filming schedule...i dont write things in order. the mind is a random thing, so a product of the mind is bound to be the same. write whatever you think of...a particular "scene," as i like to call it since i see things so visual in my head, may come to mind, so write it down as soon as you can. it may not go with the flow of your story at the time, it may not even fit at all (there's always editing), but at least you got it out.

hope i helped!

it's good that you're starting to write.

what i do is just write. i don't think about spelling, grammar or punctuations.... just get it down. write someplace that's comfortable for you. at the table...on your bed. a lot of times i write while watching television. i sometimes overhear things on tv and that sparks something in me. your surroundings can bring a lot to a story. remember, life imitates art.

good luck!

I do that too, and what I find is that if, like you say, a scene you wrote doesn't gel properly into the story you can just tweak it a tiny bit or as much as you need to, so that it does work.

Something else I like to do is know my characters inside out.  I am currently in the process of writing a 'series' of stories and I'm writing out profiles of all the characters and even include a history.  I like to know really stupid basic things like Favorite colors, songs, painters, hobbies, appearance.  Even if most of what I write doesn't make it into the stories I like to know the characters inside out.  I mean not many would care that Keira Nialla Stobbart's favorite color is blue and she's obsessed with cars but I like that point of reference.

What I usually do when I write a story is start with a synopsis. Just the main story, no details. This helps me to finish a story instead of abandoning it half way because I'm stuck. On top of that, I write short bio's (one page) about my main characters, like Victoria also mentioned. I want to know my characters, know where they are coming from, what they dream about so they really come to live.

I also often play scenes and dialogs over and over in my head before writing them down.

It really does help doesn't it?  I probably go into oo much detail on my bio's but I'm the only one who sees it so.

Same here.  I usually do it as I fall asleep.  Ideas come to me when I do it like that, and tehre are no distractions.
