I'm not one for the Puritan era! Don't expect a happy ending - for some reason every book required for school has to be depressing! I got rather lost in all the symbolism - the rose outside the jail door, etc. However, the suspense does pick up towards the end. Stick with it and read it carefully - the language and word choice made it hard to follow for me. But it does get better! It's very dramatic right up to the end - a bit like a Puritan soap opera! I can't stand it! I know I should read it; I've gotten about half way through with it, but I just can't force myself to finish! It's just an awful book! I can't keep my attention focused on it and I can't relate to it at all! I had to read this for school once too, and let me tell you... it was the worst experience ever. Doesn't it seem to take about an hour to read one chapter??
