Anyone else here read this book? In case you haven't, its wonderful -- really one of the best new books i've read in a long time. I was fortunate enough to meet the author, Yann Martel, a few weeks back during a book discussion. Anyway, if you did read it, what did you think?

I think it's a wonderful story! But I was utterly confused by the ending. Can anyone explain it to me?

Do not speak to us of the greatness of poetry, Of the torches wisping in the underground, Of the structure of vaults upon a point of light. There are no shadows in our sun, Day is desire and night is sleep. There are no shadows anywhere.

Its on my To Read list. It would be good if I had access to a library or you know, money to buy a book.

Ooh, when I posted that last thing... yeah, two years ago.. I didn't know what was good.
Wow, what an amazing book! I read it in one day when I was sick and stuck at home, and it was just so incredibly written.
I think the tidbit at the end is put there to symbolize (well not really symbolize, but iterate) man's question in faith. The skeptics. The boy told an amazing story. The policemen didn't believe it. What's considered the most amazing story? The Bible. Some people don't believe it. So I think that was there to show how man questions things, you know? Its a question of faith.
I'm not saying that's what it is or anything, its just what I understood judging from the significant religious content of the novel.
But anyway, I give this book two thumbs up!

This lonely existence paves the way For the heart of hearts must beat be brave While this quiet lightning storm Wreaks the harvest gold we tried to sow And so it begins
The days do come, but the years do go Take good care of your freedom, you never know
