From that list; Tolkien without a doubt.
There should be an 'other' choice though.
I also adore Mary Renault, she is a true genius.
Jane Austen is a favourtie of mine aswell.
Is Catcher and the Rye a good book, I have heard it mentioned quite alot lately and am wondering if I should read it.

I also like Charles Dickens, Hernest Hemingway, Laura Esquivel, but as you know I had to chose few to put in the list, and it is hard to choose eventhough.
