Random Question: Are You Proud of Your (Home) Country?

Just curious. 
* You don't have to answer all of the questions..you can just pick one if you want.
What are your feelings on the country in which you reside? (If you just moved to it from another country, then how do you feel about your birth country?)
Are you proud of its history?
Is it ever embarrassing for you to say, "I'm from ________" when you're traveling or talking to someone online?
If there was one thing you'd change about your country, what would it be?
Are you planning on living in this country for the rest of your life? If yes, why? If not, why?

It's good enough for me. I think I probably take Canada for granted.

I guess so. We didn't turn out to be a bad country, so yes.

No, and if anyone ever has a problem with my country, I will lumberjack them. Ar.
If there was one thing you'd change about your country, what would it be?
Warmer winters.
Are you planning on living in this country for the rest of your life? If yes, why? If not, why?
Yes and no. It all depends on how my life turns out. I do plan on always having at least one place to come home to in Canada, though, so I guess that's a yes.
I plan on living here because, well, all of my family and friends are here, and because it's what I'm familiar with.
The reason I'd consider moving to the US is because that might be where I'm going, job-wise. Job, ha ha.

These are really heavy questions. I'll try to give an overall idea for each one of them. If that's alright with you.
How do I feel about my country? I don't know - America is a big place, after all. And there's a different feeling in each state; it's difficult to pinpoint how I feel about the country as a whole. I think it's a pretty neat place with lots of beautiful scenery. The vast size gives such a big cross-section of people which is awesome. But I think you meant politically, in which case, nah, I don't always like my country. Majority rules is a pretty good policy but sometimes it pisses me off.
Also, there are a lot of stupid people in my country. Which leads into whether or not I'm embarassed to say that I'm from America: yes, actually, I am a tad embarassed. It has to do with the perception other people have of our country; plus, in terms of politics and how smart our president seems...eh, it's all just a bad combination.
I guess I'm pretty proud of its history. Look, every country has its 'skeletons,' so to speak. America made some slip-ups but it's done good things as well. We've got democracy - that's awesome.
I don't think I'd change our country, except in terms of immigration because it's a real problem that gets on my nerves. I'm not saying it has to get on your nerves, but it's my freedom to be annoyed with it.
Do I plan to live the rest of my life here? I'm not sure. I want to live in a few other countries first. Because I'm not sure if America is the right place for me, as a person; I suspect that England might be more in tune with me. I need to try living there first, though. So I plan to live in England for some period in my life before I decide.
I could see myself living here though. However, I might be disappointed with that decision.
I'm not trying to bash on America, I'm just trying to figure out where I should be (geographically) to be happiest in my own life.

Well, in general I guess America is a cool place. I used to rock the "freedom" banner, talking about how grateful I was for all the things we take advantage of here -- and I still think we take a lot for granted -- but lately I'm not feeling it.
Are you proud of its history?
Well, I'm studying Thomas Paine at the moment, so no. (He wrote a bunch of pamphlets during the pre-revolution era that got people into fighting for independence.) He's so obnoxious, I almost wish we'd never signed the Declaration of Independence. Also, I've just never found American history (apart from the Salem Witch Trials) particularly interesting.

Embarrassing? No, not really. I'm annoyed with America right now, but I'm not ashamed of it. It's still home.

The bloody president.

I'm going to London this fall.  Just for a semester, but you never know. And I've been talking about moving to Australia for years now. One of these days I'm actually going to do it. Just watch me!

As you all know I'm from Portugal. 
So, here are the questions:
What are your feelings on the country in which you reside? (If you just moved to it from another country, then how do you feel about your birth country?)
At the moment I'm quite frustated. People here are nice and warming but they think they're smart when they aren't, you know what I mean? Mediocrity, ignorance and laziness are the 3 greatest problems of the Portuguese people. Noone wants to work, noone wants to do anything. Students at school have horrible grades because nobody wants to study, there is no ambition! And when people get to higher positions (like in the government for instance) they get corrupted by power and loose their patriotism never thinking about the country they rule and only about themselves.
And the worse thing, is that I don't believe it will change. Of course I can't generalize, but if the future of Portugal lies in the hands of the majority of Portuguese people, then... the country is doomed.
Are you proud of its history?
Oh yes, about that, couldn't be more! A country of fearless sailsmen who brought new worlds to the world! Also, a country of poetry and brave kings. I'm very proud of the history of my country. We didn't exterminate races or anything. We're generaly pacific.

I feel proud that i can speak 2 languages, and that i have a whole other tradition. i feel kind of priveledged, i guess. I like it though.

Yes, its really interesting. All these Tartar invasions and stuff. I don'd know if proud is the right word though.

No, I'm not embarassed. Polish isn't even my first language, its my second. A lot of people are surprised when I tell them I'm foreign.

That the stores were like American stores. No, not in produce, but in kindness. In America, people are really really friendly. In Poland, if you wave or smile to someone on the street, they give you such an evil look. Maybe thats just me

Well I don't live in poland... but I would like to live there. I don't think for all my life, but I'd travel then come home to Poland. The apartments aren't that expensive or anything, and its right in the middle of all the really cool travel places.
On the other hand, I'd love to live in Poland for the rest of my life. Its charming in its countrysides, and imposing in its cities. I love it.

Sorry for not directly answering the questions but I couldn't be bothered cutting and pasting.
I'm from Northern Ireland, which technically isn't a country. If anyone asked I would always say I'm from Ireland. National pride I suppose. There are things about Northern Ireland that make me feel almost ashamed, like the Troubles and the fighting. But I am proud of the people of the country. Before the 70s catholics here didn't have proper rights and people stood up and protested peacefully, getting us all sorts of things we hadn't had before. We have come really far since that time. there are the violent people that try and ruin it for others but they are a minority and we all know it. they are far outnumbered by the people that sought hard for peace.
I'm not embarrassed about admitting where I'm from and I would always defend it. I wouldn't change anything, our past has made us who we are. We have a troubled history but the present is better because of it.

No. Just b/c I'm not always proud of certain things that go on, it doesn't make me ashamed to be an American. Beside, its not like I'm the only one. We're a pretty big country, so its pretty much assured that there will be other Americans.

The President.
And what wouldn't I change? I wouldn't change the friggin' Constitution to ban gay marriage.

There are times where I've thought I'd like to leave the country. But maybe not for LIFE. I've always wanted to go live somewhere else for a year, but then return home. After all, I was born here and its still my home at heart.

I am quite happy with the country I live in, however I do believe that young peoples voices should be heard alot more, because it's our world as well as the polotitians.
Are you proud of its history?
I'm not exactly happy with my county's history. Alot of bad desisions have been made for my country and about other countries.
However I do enjoy reading about 70% of my countries history.

no an yes because my country has caused far too much hurt for other people.(My country is England by the way.)
but on the other hand I'm proud that the Beatles are from Liverpool.

I'm gonna make it a very simple answer:
I don't believe in teh idea of "countries" the whole concept seems totally ridiculous.
then....belgian politics are crappy. but then that might be an international fact.
We don't get many good rockcocerts...another negative point.
we're overpopulated and crammed.
there are too few lotr fans.
umm....we do have some nice medieval buildings etc, so i guess that's my positive point

America's okay.
I guess I'm proud of it most of the time. There are certain presidents that I have not agreed with *cough* Bush *cough*.
But then again, If Hawaii hadn't been made a state...well I don't know where I'd be. Lol.
