I know some people prefer carols and others like cheesy pop records .
My own Christmas favourites are the Pogues and Kirsty McColl's 'Fairytale of New York', Slade's 'Marry Christmas' and John Lennon's 'Happy Christmas (War Is Over)'. The for carols, O Come All Ye faithful and Hark The Herald Angels Sing.

I like Little Drummer Boy very much too and last year my school choir sang Carol of the Bells in the original (Ukrainian, I think), I actually like it better than the English version, but generally it's just a beautiful carol and Have yourself a Merry little Christmas is very nice too. Did you know that Silent Night is actually from Austria?

I love "Carol of the Bells" (David Foster's version is my fave), but my all-time favorite is "O Holy Night." I was totally mesmerized when I heard Josh Groban's version for the first time. But then, he does have that effect on me. I also like the adorable version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Jewel and her mother.
My favorite "modern" Christmas song is "My Grownup Christmas List," by Kelly Clarkson.
But I always thought "Silent Night" was German.

Christmas/Sarajevo 12/24 by The Trans Siberian Orchestra is one of my favorites! It is so amazing! I have never heard Carol of the Bells have the power these musicians give it!
Also, I love Ave Maria. It isn't necessarily a Christmas song, but we tend to hear it during the season a lot. Andrea Bocelli's, Celine Dion's, and Josh Groban's versions are my favorites.

Yeah... I always find it kind of sad that Austrian stuff gets mistaken for German, but well I can't believe I haven't heard Last Christmas at all this year, yet....Hurray!

My favourite all time Christmas record is Ring Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull. I guess I'm showing my age a bit with that choice.

I wish I could say the same. GAWD, I hate that song! That's the thing about some pop/rock stars; they seem to think if a song contains the word "Christmas," that makes it a Christmas song.
As for the Austrian/German thing, it's probably because the languages are so similar. But it was the German version of "Silent Night" ("Stille Nacht"), as well as a story I heard about the song's author, that threw me.

I don't know there are so many different ones I like but I think my favorite ones would have to be:
1. "Baby It's Cold Outside" by Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart. 2. " Mary Did You Know" by Winona Judd and Kenny Rogers it always makes me cry.

Haven't heard any of those versions of "Mary," but the first version I ever heard was a choral arrangement we did at my old church back in SC several years ago. It was absolutely gorgeous -- nearly made me cry.
