oh Kate, you were soooooo close!  you must've been freaking out...i know i would've been. he looks like he's having a bit of a bad hair day, lol! oh well, he still looks fantastic. and that little girl is so cute!

ohhh, i so hope he got your gift! i think those people are pretty reliable...i've read reports of fans giving gifts to personel like the West Center people and Josh has gotten it.

you got to touch his hand! *bounces* that is awesome. my friend's mom got to shake his hand during In Her Eyes...we were both so jealous lol. that is so awesome...soft hands. yay! lol

i like his blue shirt. that little design on his left side is really cute. i love his fashion sense. at the Pittsburgh show, he had this gorgeous navy blue blazer on that had this dark tan design on the back. i don't know where he gets his clothes, but they are awesome.

Kate, i'm so happy you had such a great time. maybe the next Josh concert we all go to, we'll be together.

Also, Lucia had been talking to one of the ladies about how torn Josh feels. He wants to be loyal to his fans and for them to like his music but he also wants to grow as a musician. And apparently there are a bunch of people who don't want him playing Machine during the concert because they think it's too.....I dunno, "not his style" I guess.
oh god! poor Josh. these are the types of things that truly tick me off. i mean, you're a fan of the music, i'm a fan of the music, there are million upon millions of people out there who are fans of the music and we want him to sing as much as he possibly can or wants to. he's an artist, and it's his artistic lisence to create and sing whatever type of music his heart desires. to think that there are people out there scolding Josh for his talent really makes me mad...and the fact that Josh is such a sweetheart that he's really considering these people's hurtful words just breaks my heart. Josh really is the sweetest person in the world and the fact that he would consider sacrificing his growth as a musician is beyond anything i have ever heard. how horrible. how absolutely horrible.

i just hope he knows there are more people out there who love and support him than those who selfish jerks and quite obviously do not.

Colleen, I too adore his fashion sense!  It's so sexy and incredibly handsome!   I think some of his clothes come from Banana Republic.  A long time ago I saw a little clip, a behind the scenes sort fo thing and I can't help but to remember that the shoes he was wearing were from there.  There was a comment made of a tag showing or something.  I'm pretty certain this isn't my imagination haha.  But Banana Republic have very similar clothes to what Joshy wears so it would make sense to me.

I personally admire and really love how he is expanding his music.  'Machine' is brilliant!  It carries a jazzy/classical/modern vibe to it.  I couldn't imagine anyone but Josh performing this so well with his voice.

There's actually a big discussion on the boards right now about the 3rd leg. Josh does has a lot on his plate....with Australia and then the Christmas album, and he is also working on a new album and he starts up with Chess in May. But he has said he loves to tour, so we can only pray....I'm sure that it will happen, maybe not as soon as we would like, but I'm sure it will happen eventually.

exactly. i think it's going to be a long while before he goes on tour again.
i've heard a rumor, now granted it's very far fetched, that the new album will be out as soon as next year. so, should by some random chance that be true, maybe we'll get a tour for that.

how long is he supposed to be doing Chess? a month or so? i don't really know how those kind of things work haha.

Ah PCD, I know it ALL too well.

Chess?  Bleh, either I am having a blonde moment or I am clueless.

Yeah I think we will be waitng on more touring or another tour itself for awhile.  Like you said, he's got a lot on his plate right now.  He's definitely a busy, busy man.

I wanted to be at Charlotte so badly!  If you girls happen to run across any news or pictures from Charlotte could you post them?

Megsie- Chess is the musical Josh is/was in. I've never seen it, but I've heard/seen a few clips, and, naturally, he is amazing.

Here are a few pics from Charlotte-

Hahaha, OK....I might cry if I see anymore, so I'll stop there.

EDIT: Great, I made an "uh oh" and posted Denver pics...wake up, little Susie!! I mean...Kate.

HERE are some Charlotte pics (if I don't mess this up again):

^^YOU FREAKING ROCKSTAR!! Ladies, promise me we'll give Josh his very own mosh pit when we go see him!!

seriously, Josh is such a rockstar.

Quote:

you better believe it. i had my own little dance party at my concert during Machine...everyone refused to join in. party poopers.

my friends are so silly. we went through my belongings (haha, that's such a grandma word...) today to prove how obsessed with Josh i am. i must say, i'm beginning to think they have a point. lol! it was silly though.
anyways...
my friend gets this Pittsburgh magazine called "Whirl" and they did a spotlight on Josh for the month of August because of his concert at Mellon Arena, which she so generously gave to me . it's a really cute article about his roots in Carnegie Mellon (which i have an insane story about! don't let me forget to tell you guys...). it actually had this introductory story about Josh that i didn't know. i'll have to see if i can find it online, and if not, i'll just type it up.
so sit tight while i go search...

ok, the Whirl website is really retarded and they don't keep past articles on their page. so i'll type up the first few paragraphs (the article is really rather long...maybe i'll type up the rest later...i don't think my fingers can handle it right now.  )

*deep breath* ok, here we go:

Quote:
The stage is vast and taunting with its echo. The wood gives awa, soft, under each step. The walls wait a second and then cough their reminder back. This is it. The Philip Chosky Theatre in the Purnell Center at Carnegie Mellon University. The stage that cradled Ted Danson, Rob Marshall, Patrick Wilson, Cherry Jones, Sutton Foster, Holly Hunter. The stage that challenged them, too. Possibly punished. The walk, alone, each echoing foot in front of the other, tells this story of truth, of courage, of pride, while the stage signals its gravity, its purpose, its strength. The talent that has crossed the stage has gone on to win Academy Awards, Tony Awards, the eys of the nation on a city, a school, in Sothwestern Pennsylvania. This is Carnegie Mellon. This stage is reserved for the very best.
In the fall of 1999, it is Josh Groban taking the walk, his last ever on the Carnegie Mellon stage. The boy with the baritone voice and floppy, curly hair has to perform for a voice jury at the end of his first and last semester at the top-ranking musical theater school in the country. A score of his professors watch, wait. In the center, his steps silence. A second later, the walls do, too. He parts his lips and sings. "Maria...Maria...They call the wind Maria..."
And the stage is swelling with him, with song. With a voice, full and whole.  His eyebrows rise with the cool release of one long, high, perfect note. His jury holds a breath inside of them, the involuntary reaction to savoring a single, perfect second. And then the music stops, cuts out and cuts him off like a guillotine. He chokes on the next verse, coming up his throat. There is silence again. The stage grows more vast.
His performing eyes send a soft panic to the accompanist. His song gurgles inside of him. The jury stirs. The seconds start to pile up, enough for a few dozen echoed answers. Then, someone speaks.
"Josh, did you bring your music?" It is Claudia Benack, his voice instructor, the woman who coached the notes out of him for the last four months. His voice is accustomed to hers, obeys it.  The singer blushes. Hot under the lights, alone on the merciless stage, he looks to his accompanist again. The sheet musicn isn't there, the pages that would have carried him through the most beautiful aria and off of the stage again. It is Groban's responsibility to have brought it. He hasn't.
"We're done here, Josh," Benack says, unforgiving. Groban starts his walk again. His steps speak defeat. The stage speaks back.
"We were so stunned," Benack says about the jury. She knew his voice. She had trained it. But she couldn't show favoritism, ignore an oversight. The stage wouldn't allow it. She had to dismiss him. In his walking off, she remembers their first meeting.
"We start the week before Labor Day, but I didn't see him that week," she says. "I set up to work with him on the holiday. I said I was going to meet him at a certain time outside of the Purnell Center. I arrived, and the door was locked. And I didn't know where he was. I turned, and he was sitting on a bench, waiting for me. Security came and let us in. It's a silly story; I remember it because it was Josh."
She started Groban the way she started all of her freshmen: with breathin exercises and a classical repertoire of a 24 Italian art songs and arias. "He had a beautiful, natural sound,"  Benack says. "He was a baritone, but his range was much larger. I remember thinking, 'My gosh, what a beautiful, round, full sound.'"
Her awe is similar to that of Cary Kline. The studio Singing Voice teacher is one of a team of instructors who audtition incoming freshman. They traveled the country in February and listened to 750 hopeful voices, all vying to get a shot at the school churning out unmatched talent, honing the perfect performers. Groban was one of 12 to be accepted.
"I remember Josh having this beautiful voice," Kline says. "But there was a maturity to his. Here was this boy that God had gifted with theis instrument. It was really unique. I pushed for him to come in."
It was around the same time that the singer was being tutored by award-winning composer, producer David Foster. . .
[article talks about singing duet with Celine Dion, Rosie O'Donnell, and inauguration of governer of Calif.]
. . .A few months later, he got the call he was really looking forward to: an acceptance to Carnegie Mellon. "The whole experience was unreal," Josh says. "I was thrilled to be singing for David, but also knew that Carnegie Mellon was a great opportunity."
[then the article goes on to talk about how Josh had to "double major" in singning and acting, with a bit of dance thrown in there too (wonder how those worked out for him, huh? lol!)]

there's a whole lot more that basically praises Josh for everything he's ever done. it is a wonderful review of Josh as a person and performer, as opposed to just a review of his cd.

Quote:
Josh's audition to attend Carnegie Mellon University was in Los Angeles on February 8th, 1999. He sang songs from "Closer Than Ever" and "Oklahoma!" Here are the notes his future professors took:

"Really unique instrument: Excellent rich tones with 'ping'; but has a very natural timbre - sounds mature and trained. Very sincere and honest delivery. Has no veneer. A real surprise vocally, if a bit average in physical appearance - unexpected talent here! An 8+ on a scale of 0 to 9."
--Gary Kline, Studie Singing Voice teacher

"Clear grasp of language. A nice ease, with vocal richness. He thinks and finds involvement. Skilled and genuine."
    --Tony McKay, Professor of Acting

"Very smart delivery. Plays with variety, addressing imagery with specific ways. Clear focus - natural talent. A "taker," I'd say.
--Don Wadsworth, Professor of Voice and Speech

hooray Josh! Pittsburgh loves you!

EDIT
ha! i nearly forgot! my story!
so one of my friend's brothers works at Carnegie Mellon University, and has for many many years. he used to let a select few of us in for a yearly tour of the campus, to you know see what's been updated and stuff. i remember that we used to spend a lot of time in the theater departments to watch the performances the students would be putting on.
what if i saw Josh there?
also, we would sometimes get to meet some of the students...ask them questions about college life and whatnot (sure, i was only 9 and my sister was only 12...it was more my parents that did the asking).
what if a met Josh? what if i saw him before he was "Josh Groban, singing sensation"?
what if...? ahhhh!
more than likely not, but still. there's that slight glimmer of possibility.

EDIT #2

Quote:
OK.....almost done with my review.....I'm not sure I could ever do this for a living....I love this man and I can't even tell the world how I feel!!
you know what, Kate? i don't think i've ever asked you what you are going to school for! how rude of me!
and gosh do i know that feeling. you have so much love and emotion and detail you want to express, but there really are no words that do those feelings justice. i feel ya.

OH MY POOR JOSHY!!!  My heart just breaks for him.....that story at the beg. of the article? *hugs Josh*

Colleen- I am majoring in Spanish. But my mom wants me to go into Journalism, haha.

OK *sits self down*, Kate. You gotta get your head out of the clouds!!!

*sigh* Seriously....I've got a freaking CRUSH on Josh....and there are seriously three/four different parts of me that are drying me crazy. There's a part of me that is so self-conscious of myself that if I ever meet Josh.....well, I'm sure you can figure out the rest.
Then there's a part of me that is like, "Well....what if?" And that's giving me so much false hope.
There's also a part of me that is the rational side, saying, "Kate, there's someone out there for you, and even if it's not Josh---you'll be happy together."
And there's also another part of me that just wants to meet him so much....and for him to like me.

i know, right?! i never knew that! i mean, he was freaking turned down! i bet CMU is kicking themselves right now for that. sure, they had a commendable and famous reputation before Josh, but they could've been the ones to discover him!

Spanish...i knew that.
