R.I.P Ray Charles23 September 1930 - 10 June 2004 Perennial music legend Ray Charles has died of liver failure on Thursday. He was 73. Charles was surrounded by family and friends at his Beverly Hills home when he died at 11.35 am.
Charles, blind by the age of 7, won a staggering 12 Grammy Awards, scoring with hits like Georgia on My Mind, Hit the Road Jack, Makin' Whoppee and I Can't Stop Loving You.
"He was a fabulous man, full of humor and wit," fellow music legend Aretha Franklin said in a statement. "A giant of an artist, and of course, he introduced the world to secular soul singing."
Billy Joel said many artists had tried to emulate Charles, "among them myself, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Steve Winwood and countless others. Ray Charles defined rhythm and blues, soul, and authentic rock 'n' roll."
"I lost one of my best friends and I will miss him a lot," country legend Willie Nelson said in a statement. "Last month or so, we got together and recorded It Was a Very Good Year, by Frank Sinatra. It was great hanging out with him for a day."
Charles is survived by 12 children, 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in a Los Angeles church next week.Absolutely fantastic musician. Such a horrible shame. You will never ever be forgotten.

Me too I cried. I hate it how all the really talented musicians are dying. We're going to be left with nothing soon.

Aw dude! I didnt even know it...I guess its cuz im not very umm how do i put this... i dont watch the news very often. Well, thats really sad, I didnt recognize his name to be honest but when I saw his picture I knew who he was. Thats super sad man. But just think, we can always listen to the CDs of these people: just because they died, doesnt mean their music died!
luv, Cassie

Ray Charles is dead? I knew it here! That's very sad. Ray Charles was a myth, even though I don't know many of his songs. Rest in peace, Charles.

He was so amazing, I am so sad! Yesterday on my way home a radio station was paying tribute to him, and they played "Georgia on my Mind"..I almost cried. He will be missed.
