I prefer male voices because there aren't many good rock- and punkbands with a female singer. And the few bands who have a female singer aren't that great.

I'd rather have a male singing a ballad than a female... Cause if it's a man it's like he's singing it to me

If it is rock/pop music then I like both male and female voices, they have different qualities and suit different moods. But for Opera I prefer female voices, I am not keen on male operatic singers.

I looked through all the artists on my MP3 player and the majority were male - Dylan, Cash, through to Gary Lightbody and Jonny Borrell - and very few were female - however, some good bands are lead by women, like the Cranberries and Catatonia...and their lead singers have amazing voices too. Its very hard to choose.

I voted for female, but really I don't mind either as long as they are good.

I definitely prefer male singing voices. Most of my favourite bands/artists feature a male lead singer .... BUT.... there are exceptions of course!
I really love Sinead O'Connor, Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Dolores from The Cranberries, Stevie Nicks, and Oz singers Missy Higgins and Julia from duo Angus and Julia Stone, among others... They just don't connect on as much of an 'emotional' level with me however.

To me, most female pop singers sound like they're about 10 years old. Especially ones like Avril Lavigne, Liz Phair, and yes, even Sheryl Crow, who is actually a couple of years older than I am.
The few who do sound mature overdo it on the "vocal gymnastics" most of the time: consider Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, etc.
The only female singers I actually like are Amy Lee, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson.
Edit: Also Dido, Enya, and Pink. I used to like Jewel, but she's changed somehow.

i think this is unfair !
There are so many great male singers and female singers, and i find it difficult to choose either one of the both!
