Quote from: Louise on May 09, 2004, 02:09:13 pm you know there's a way of holding your hands in front of our ears that makes your voice sound to yourself like it does to others? my voice sounds terrible, high-pitched, thin, girly. btw i'm a first soprano.
|
Really? I usually just use Sound Recorder when I want to hear myself...but my new computer doesn't have a friggen microphone. Ugh. Oh well. Maybe I'll wave my hands around in front of my face until I figure it out. Thanks, though.
Quote from: pityaperian on May 09, 2004, 02:37:44 pm Um, i wouldn't know about actually giving you a wider range, but i suppose that the technique you'd learn in lessons would improve your ability to hit the higher and lower notes of your range. Singing lessons would definitely help just in the context that they are there to improve your voice, and there are a certain number of techniques that you do need to be taught, in order to project and stuff.
By the way you were saying about being able to hit the notes really well it sounds like you might have relative pitch or something like. Do you play any other instruments that involve reading music, or can you sing someone say a G if they play you a C, because that would suggest relative pitch, and if you can name the notes when people are singing them and just sing any note right straight off without hearing any notes beforehand, then that'd suggest perfect pitch.
|
So, I'm stuck with my voice? Damnit. LOL, just kidding, I like it. But you're saying that the lessons are worth it? Okee dokee, I guess I will get them, then. Thanks!
Nope, never played an instrument or anything. Have no clue what the notes are. The only way I can sort of tell what the notes mean is their place on the line things...scale? Eh, I dunno. The higher they are, blah blah blah. I know when a note goes from higher to lower, you move it down on your voice...wow, I have no clue what I'm talking about. Anyway, when we do the harmonies we don't get seperate music, we just listen and memorize.

I love singing! I used to sing in the choir when I was in high school. I could sing all the Alto parts (1&2) and I even had to sing tenor for awhile when there weren't enough guys.
Singing is like my life! Music is like always playing in my head. I really wish I could learn the guitar, but I just never have the time. I love to write songs though and I sing them, but only in my own house, lol.

do i sing? h.ell yes i sing! i love it, i do choirs at school(i'm in highschool) and 2 or 3 at the university near me each year. it's really kind of to the point where i am a huge nerd though because when school ends i kind of miss being able to sing for something.
i used to have a pretty big roblem with stagefright though (when it came to solos). i have (to date) backed out of 6 solo's that my highschool teacher has asked me to do. here's the worst part...all on the night of the concerts but it got better and i sang at the last one, plus i tried out today for a really cool gospel solo which will sound really strange coming from me, but i like the part i'm gearing myself up to do the next battle of the bands which i am the host for usually(funny, i'm not nervous when i do that.
oh p.s. i'm an alto ~any one else have problems with stagefright?

Yeah lessons help just in general, but i found that my range has improved over the last few years, so i think that just kinda comes with time as your voice matures.

I used to. I'm pretty much over mine now, but i've sung solo's in a local competition for the last three, maybe four years. I think you just have to get used to it. You know the saying, practice makes perfect.

Singing is my life. Literally.. the only way I can afford college is because of my singing scholarships.
I love to dance too.. I'm in the university show choir, where we sing AND dance (and wear goofy sparkly outfits ). It's so much fun!
See? Me & my goofy sparkly outfit..

Singing...
I used to sing a chorus in junior high. Anyone that felt inclined was welcome to sing. So I did. I sang high notes. I got to sing at my graudation. Good times.
Then...I don't know what happened, maybe it was the smoking, but I can't really hit high notes.
I apparently had a nice voice when I was younger. I don't usually let other people hear me sing anymore. Cause of the cracking that happens when I sing high notes. I mean, sometimes, on long drives, I belt stuff out and it sounds good to me...but...you know...that might not be true.
I'm not hung up on this, though. I've decided I need more singing in my life. So I sing for the hell of it.
With the window closed, of course.
