You guys are so funny! It is a great reminder...I think I have done it too a couple times. However, since I am usually so wordy...I go over the 10 most of the time.

It is hard to stick to the ten word limit, because sometimes the point you wish to make would be aptly summed up in just one or two words.

| And then a few minutes later you post 7 words?
The rule is simply to encourage thoughtful post. There were to many post resembling "Awesome! !!" Which is just irritating.
And I just wrote over 30 words in about 15 seconds...it isn't that hard.

I have a query - if you put down a quote and a one-word reply, and the quote is more than 10 words, does that count as breaking the rule? Because technically your post is more than 10 words, even though you yourself only wrote 1 of them?

I also have a query in the chat thread do you have to post more than 10 words..cos there are some posts less there. is it a rule in every thread apart from 'first word that comes in your head' obviously

Maybe because your post count doesn't go up it doesn't matter so much? I'm just guessing here.

The thing about the ten word rule is that not everybody has the same standard of written English. Some people who's first language is not English may struggle (some have excellent English and don't struggle at all) and I don't like the idea that people from non English speaking countries will be put off or feel prejudiced against, this forum should be for everybody regardless of nationality. What is important is communication and whether we can understand each other.

Well said Julie, and I know that I could hardly string 10 words together in a different language to make something sensible...though I guess, like Harmonica said, if you just post one word it'll get a bit boring, you have to offer people 'a joke, an opinion'.
