Quote from: Flummoxed. on February 08, 2007, 08:26:58 pm
My all-time favorite quote, though, whether from book or film, is "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." It's so true of every aspect of life, and I love it. I love it so much, in fact, that I have it tattooed around my wrist in Elvish.
|
I fully agree. It means so much more. Very often people seem to forget that they are the only one who can change their lives when they're feeling unhappy. But instead, they are blaming others and just carry on without changing anything. I think about that line very often.
It's great that you have a tattoo of that line. Do you happen to have a picture of it? I'd love to see it.

These are two of my favourite quotes from the movies:
“All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you”
“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future"

I like that from Merry:"Welcome,my Lords,to Isengard!"
And Frodo:"I´m glad to be with you,Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things..."

Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that Gollum can be cured before he dies, but there is a chance of it. And he is bound up with the fate of the Ring. My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end; and when that comes, the pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many—yours not least. ~ Gandalf
I love this one!

I like that one too; so meaningful. Gandalf always manages to put light into every situation.

My favorite quote:
"So don't all who see these times, but that is not for us to decide. All you have to do is decide what to do with the time you are given to you."
Very strong and awesome thoughts to ponder...especially during trying times.

^ Like when he said "I've sent him to his death" I was really going to scream at that time and when at the beginning of the ROTK, before "The Return of the King" title is up Gndalf is looking around with Aragorn and Legssie and I felt like he has no hope and that was the most tear-jercking part for me in the ROTK

All I can say is thank the Lord of IMDB.com!
Boromir: [holding the ring after Frodo has lost it] It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing.
Sam: I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise. "Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee." And I don't mean to. I don't mean to.
Elrond: Nine companions. So be it. You shall be the fellowship of the ring. Pippin: Great! Where are we going?
Frodo: I know what I must do, it's just that... I'm afraid to do it. Galadriel: Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
Gimli: Nobody tosses a dwarf.
Frodo: Go back, Sam. I'm going to Mordor alone. Sam: Of course you are. And I'm coming with you.
Pippin: What's that? Merry: This, my friend, is a pint. Pippin: It comes in pints? [In low voice] Pippin: I'm getting one.
Aragorn: Gentlemen, we do not stop till nightfall. Pippin: What about breakfast? Aragorn: You've already had it. Pippin: We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast? [Aragorn turns and walks off in disgust] Merry: I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip. Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he? Merry: I wouldn't count on it.
Gandalf: Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee. Have you been eavesdropping? Sam: I ain't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest. I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you'll follow me. Gandalf: A little late for trimming the verge, don't you think? Sam: I heard raised voices. Gandalf: What did you hear? Speak. Sam: N-nothing important. That is, I heard a good deal about a ring, and a Dark Lord, and something about the end of the world, but... Please, Mr. Gandalf, sir, don't hurt me. Don't turn me into anything... unnatural.
Pippin: Anyways, you need people of intelligence on this sort of... mission... quest... thing. Merry: Well, that rules you out, Pip.
Pippin: Are we lost? Merry: No. Pippin: I think we are. Merry: Shh. Gandalf's thinkin'. Pippin: Merry? Merry: What? Pippin: I'm hungry.
Galadriel: The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true.
Frodo: Come on, Sam. Remember what Bilbo used to say: "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."
Sam: Trust a Brandybuck and a Took. Merry: What? That was just a detour, a shortcut. Sam: Shortcut to what? Pippin: Mushrooms!
Aragorn: You said you'd bind yourself to me, forsaking the immortal life of your people. Arwen: And to that I hold. I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.
Sam: Hey. Mr. Frodo's not going anywhere without me. Elrond: No, indeed. It is hardly possible to separate you, even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not.
Pippin: Oh that's nice - ash on my tomatoes.
Gimli: Dwarf doors are invisible when closed. Gandalf: Yes, Gimli, their own masters cannot find them, if their secrets are forgotten. Legolas: Why doesn't that surprise me?
Legolas: Lembas! [nibbles a corner] Legolas: One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man! Merry: [to Pippin] How many did you eat? Pippin: Four. [burps]
Bilbo: [enigmatically] You're a good lad, Frodo. I'm very selfish, you know. Yes, I am. Very selfish. I don't know why I took you in after your mother and father died but it wasn't out of charity. I think it was because... of all my numerous relations, you were the one Baggins that showed real spirit. Frodo: Bilbo, have you been at the Gaffer's home brew? Bilbo: No. [pause] Bilbo: Well, yes, but that's not the point...
Frodo: We are hobbits of the Shire. Frodo Baggins is my name, and this is Samwise Gamgee. Faramir: Your bodyguard? Sam: His gardener.
Legolas: [in Elvish] You're late. [in English] Legolas: You look terrible.
Gimli: Oh come on, we can take 'em. Aragorn: It's a long way. Gimli: Toss me. Aragorn: What? Gimli: I cannot jump the distance, you'll have to toss me. [pauses, looks up at Aragorn] Gimli: Don't tell the elf. Aragorn: Not a word.
Gollum: [singing] The rock and pool, is nice and cool, so juicy sweet. Our only wish, [he whacks the fish on the rock] Gollum: to catch a fish, [another whack] Gollum: so juicy sweet.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam? Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
Sam: What we need is a few good taters. Gollum: What's taters, precious? What's taters, eh? Sam: *Po-tay-toes!* Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew... Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish. [Gollum makes a noise of disgust while sticking his tongue out] Sam: Even you couldn't say no to that. Gollum: Oh yes we could. Spoilin' nice fish. Give it to us raw and w-r-r-riggling; you keep nasty chips. Sam: You're hopeless.
[following Gollum down the path] Sam: I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales. Frodo: [turns around] What? Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, 'Let's hear about Frodo and the Ring.' And they'll say 'Yes, that's one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn't he, Dad?' 'Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that's saying a lot.' Frodo: [continue walking] You've left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam. [stops and turns to Sam] Frodo: Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam. Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn't make fun; I was being serious. Frodo: So was I. [they continue to walk] Sam: Samwise the Brave...
Gimli: It's true you don't see many dwarf women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for dwarf men. Aragorn: [whispering] It's the beards. Gimli: And this in turn has given rise to the belief that there are no dwarf women, and that dwarves just spring out of holes in the ground! [Eowyn laughs] Gimli: Which is, of course, ridiculous.
Theoden: Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. How did it come to this?
That's some of them. There are definitely more.

Frodo: You're late. Gandalf: A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to. *both laugh* *Frodo jumps on Gandalf* Frodo: It's so good to see you Gandalf! ~*~ Gimli: What's going on? What's happening? *tries to jump to see over ledge of castle as Orc's approach* Legolas: Would you like me to describe it to you? Or find a box? ~*~ Gimli: Certinty of death... small chance of sucess... what are we waiting for?
These are just a few... helps I just watched all 3 movies in the past 3 days (out of order, yes, but I still watched them all lol.)
