The interview with PJ at Ain't It Cool News (the link you posted in your LJ) was wonderful.  Everything in this article was said there....and more.

What if......By some strange stroke of utter genius...and in some weird AU..because I know this is absolutely not true and impossible...but wouldn't it be really outstanding if somewhere in the Weta archives of 3 foot 6 studios all of the raw footage of the Hobbit already existed just waiting for editing and voice overs..lol

It is almost as impossible to think how they will get the hobbiton set back from the farmer, close it off, move the sheep regrow the plants and gardens place the facing back on the buildings rebuild the bridge....wouldn't Pete just...for the fun of it say one after noon....OK Ian and Ian  we are going to have a bit of fun.......

Who can say what secrets lurk in the vaults of 3'6"

Well, I think PJ said he saved a LOT of stuff just in case "The Hobbit" did get made.  But you make a very good point about the sites, etc.

time will tell, but logic would dictate that it has to be one or the other..either all of the outdoor footage already exsists and all that Peter has to do is the set shots, or none of it does and everything will be recreated.  Who knows weta is so tricksy and versatile they could probably recreate the whole thing virtually by now....though I doubt that would satisfy PJs eye for the "real".

It will be very interesting to see the final product whenever that may be.

Good news from the petitions being given to MGM

From theonering.net

'The Hobbit' Petition: MGM Speaks!
Xoanon @ 8:58 pm EST

Lith writes: Here is a report on the deliveries of The Hobbit Petition to MGM and New Line on September 22nd. The petition, with the 39116 signatures accumlutated at the time of printing, was delivered to the studios along with a copy of MrCere's open letter to the studios. Though we have had no feedback at this time from New Line, I did receive this very cordial email from Theo Dumont of MGM today, with full permission to pass it along. It should hearten fans a good bit.

"Dear organizers of The Hobbit Petition:

We would like to give you the official statement from Rick Sands, COO of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. Feel free to pass this along to your members and affiliated web sites. Thank you and please see below:

"Peter Jackson's phenomenal success with The Lord of the Rings trilogy makes him the first and most ideal choice for directing The Hobbit," said MGM COO Rick Sands. "MGM would be thrilled to collaborate with the Academy Award-winning director on this MGM New Line Cinema production. And, I'm sure to the delight of the 50,000 filmgoers who have petitioned us in recent weeks, demanding we bring this film to fruition, we have had a few initial conversations about the project with Mr. Jackson's representatives."

Best regards,

Theo Dumont
Manager of Public Relations
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.

Well, 9 is such a significant number in LOTR, eh?  But it was a stack 9 inches high, over 1400 pages, weighing (including the boxes it was packed in) nearly 20 pounds.

And it was great to have you and your hubby, our very own Bill the
Pony, along to share the load.

BTW, the petition got a hefty mention in Variety!

I don't think no one else could do it justice like Pj could. I do know that Lij  has done said he didn't want to play a Hobbit again. But I think he could be a very good Bilbo. I also believe all the original cast would be great in it.

I guess that's why they are 2 different ppl to me, cuz I can't really see them as the same one, but he should be in it, but I'm not sure he'd be a believeable Bilbo after seeinghim as Frodo  LOL,  just me.

Hi there, everyone!

You probably already saw this info, but just in case...

This one is New Line's latest statement by Shaye....quite frankly I have NO idea what he is trying to say...but he sure makes New Line look stupid. If anyone can make some sense of this, I would be happy to hear it.

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?id=39462

And then here is Wingnut & PJ's response:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31211

Looking at the two statements objectively, PJ & Wingnut look pretty darn good. They make a good impression...in my humble opinion. They stick to the issue without insulting anyone....while Shaye is emotional, unclear and really just blabbling....about nothing. Whelp, it should be interesting to see what ends up happening.

Just thought I would pop this link in here for those watching the "Hobbit war"....

http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=Cannes2007&jump=story&id=1061&articleid=VR1117965588&cs=1&query=The+Hobbit

Perhaps it is just wishful thinking...but it seems a little more hopeful. Possible setting between New Line and PJ. Here's hoping!
