i pretty much done alot of Hotlinking, though that was before my inexperience with computers when i was young bittie lad like most girls here, lol
what some have done is that they stop people from downloading their images from their sites, they blocked the code enabling the user to do that, though there simple tricks to get around that
just like IP Banning, even though a mod can banned you with your IP address, you can get around that and create a new account and still posts,
it is an on going battle with hackers

Thanks for the warning, but me and my friend found that one out the hard way...  That was a very scary moment in our lives.  Google is good for pictures, but sometimes they're just not what you think they are...

I think that repulsive pictures are too excessive a reaction. Somebody I know dealt with it by putting a mildly peeved but still polite JPG message on her site in place of the picture.
I don't do much hotlinking in general, so I haven't run afoul of that...

Why do people have fun doind stuff like that on the internet? I had to do a project on my favourite singer for Music and I typed in my chosen singers name and cliked on the first link taht came and it turned out to be a porn site even tho in the description it said a fan site! 
You have to be careful whet you visit nowadays!

*becomes disgusted* I mean if it like slash or something i don't mind (hell, i live on it) but nasty, 'jab your eyes out with a fork' pics are a cruel cruel torture. I will find these people and flick them in the nose for all the people who have been traumatized. HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE HAVE BEEN TORTURED IN SUCH A CRUEL WAY?!?!? *sob!* i am so so sorry. here have a complementary frodo plushie. ^.^
