Quote from: maryd on December 04, 2007, 02:48:00 pm Interesting to hear everyone;'s thoughts here after such a long time. I have heard since that he 'soaks up local accents like a sponge' or something like that, and I for one thought he was originally English, since LOTR was the 1st thing I saw him in. [/quote
I agree with you a lot on this, Elijah seems to grasp many a dialect when he is in a certain movie.... but overall I think the midwest/Calf accent is ingrained when he speaks publicly. When he spoke in LOTR , I was almost convinced he was British. he takes on a chameleon type of quality with himself and his voice..... |

yes, i thought that too ...though i probably don't know as much about accents as you guys do, but i was convinced he was british until i listened to a few interviews and the woman said : " hey you almost sound british" and he was like :" I do? yeah, i sometimes switch into that" and i stared at him .... oh .... and then i didn't care and watched a different interview because the interviewer was stupid anyways haha but yeah, now i know better

I think he's just very good at accents...I've lived in England for about the same time I lived in Florida (where I was born) and I have a natural American accent but when I talk to my friends I use a fake English accent and they all ask me why my brother has an American accent an I don't

You never know if could be both? jkzjkz. But yeah, I am not very sure. While doing LOTR I thought he was British. So I was like 'omg I am liking another British guy now?' lol

I'm not native English speaker to claim that i can notice between English accents! I can barely make a difference between British\Eng and American\Eng ,and i honestly adore the first accent!
Back to the main topic, which is Lij's Accent i find it American 100%!
i know he speaks Br\E in LoTR but i was pretty sure he isn't a REAL British! And i didnt know him before LoTR either! Maybe cuz his co-stars in LoTR are British and they naturally speaks strong Br\E accent!

One of my friend always make fun of me and say '' You speak like people from Texas." I don't think so. I just speak regular American accent!

Quote from: zerostumbleine33 on July 04, 2008, 12:27:18 am I think he has a normal midwest accent, he speaks like I do. But he's also very articulate, and punctuates his words clearly, so I think that kind of helps give him a distinct sound and is easily tainted with a british sounding accent at time as well lol

You are right! Elijah speaks American, but he pronounces his words in a British way which is cool. It really suits him, I think

His accent seems to change. Most of the time he'll sound like he's from California, but sometimes the Iowa twang will come in. Not that I'm an expert in California and Iowa accents, I'm not at all. Knowing that I have a naturally North Eastern American accent with a Kansas twang coming every now and again into my voice (I don't come from either place, by the way, my northeastern accent is from when I had a tongue tie, I've simply refused to change the way I speak even though my tongue tie was clipped, and the Kansas accent is, ironically enough, from living in Oklahoma since 1998), I have a feeling that Elijah also has certain accents that come into his voice. I've also noticed that Elijah articulates his words as well, which I find interesting.
