A Book You Hated?

Has anyone on here ever read a book they hated? Did you manage to finish it, or did you put it down halfway? Why didn't you like it? I'm just interested - there are one or two books I haven't enjoyed, but normally I find something good in them. A book I absolutely hated was 'The Almost Moon' by Alice Sebold. Feel free to disagree!

I hated "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer *ducks flying missiles* The plot was so dull, and the dialogue was lame in parts and overly melodramatic in others!
I forced myself to get through it though, cos I'm stubborn like that... and besides, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Another book I hated was "A Patch of Blue" by Elizabeth Kata. It's supposedly an inspirational story about a blind girl who is neglected and abused, but finally finds love... I just found it depressing and scary. We were made to read it for school at age 13, but I think it was a little much for me at the time!

I used to hate The Catcher In The Rye; later I had to read it again for school and I found it less annyoing, but it's still not something I enjoyed. I also didn't like Lord Of the Flies...so boring

Different spokes for different folks, I guess. I didn't like 'The Lovely Bones' when I first read it, but then I re-read it and thought it was OK, so I gave 'Almost Moon' a go. Not only was the subject matter sickening to me, but the way Alice Srbold wrote it was so cold - I didn't feel any compassion at all, which was why I hated it. My mum read it right after me and that's the only time she has ever threatened to moniter what I read.
Kathi - I hated Lord of the Flies too. There was so much of it and I kept getting confused.

I"ve been forcing myself to get through this one book. It's a love story about a boring farm couple and how they met. I did semi finish it but I skipped ahead. It was bad.
I dunno tho there are alot of books I start reading like "Wicked" for example and not that there is anything wrong with them, it's just that I realize I"d rather be reading (writing) the story I've got in my own head.
Does anybody who also writes feels like reading is just putting "more in there" somehow?

As a custom title for me, useful I would like it to be. Something descriptive, about me I give: I am "The Limerick Lady."

the da vinci code. I still can't believe how I got convinced that it would be a good read.

As for the Twilight hype. when I heard about it, I lost the hope on today's youth. I'm kidding, but seriously how worse can it get?

I quite enjoyed the daVinci Code - it was full of plenty of suspense.
Agree with you on Twilight though. I read the first chapter and I couldn't force the rest down.

| well, one can't deny the suspense, that's for sure, but one can't ignore the factual and historical mistakes either. But well, that's only my humble opinion.
Last summer a friend mentioned the Twilight plot to me, it was enough to know I would never want to get close to that book.
edit: Although I did like the BBC series based on Jane Austin's novels, I might be the only girl who finds the books and her writing dull. I remember trying to read Emma some years ago and fall asleep.

RE - Jane Austen: I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice but then when I tried to read anything else by her, I found them really boring...Emma stands out as the book I couldn't even read the first chapter of.

ahah we should form a group and gather everyone who feels the same. our moto would be : Jane Austen, we do love Mr. Darcy but your books do better as pillows.

Exactly.
Another book I didn't enjoy much was 'Sepulchre' by Kate Mosse. The story kind of dragged, and it reminded me of some books I read when I was younger that I didn't like either (Wormwood by G.P.Taylor ).
