Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn

Has anybody read any of these books? It's a trilogy:
Across the Nightingale Floor
Grass For His Pillow
and
Brilliance of the Moon
I've read the first two so far, and they are amazing!
They tell the story of a young Japanese man, Takeo, who discovers through a few odd brushes with destiny that he is not who he thinks he is. Taking place in feudal Japan (think.. medieval-like), Takeo gets wrapped up in the wars between the clans for power and land.
Takeo finds out he is both the heir to the lands of the Otori, as well as a member of the Kikuta Tribe - an ancient clan who possess unnatural, "magic" powers. Takeo has to make many choices, like whether he should forsake his Otori heritage and go with the Tribe, or whether he should try and escape the Tribe's claim to his life and claim his land.
Along the way there is action, romance (with Kaede, a very strong female character that you can't help but root for), and moments of sheer natural beauty.
After reading these books, I actually find myself longing to go to Japan!
Has anyone else been drawn into Takeo's world yet? If not, I highly suggest it!!

Whoo hoo, someone else whose heard of them. Yay.
Yes, Kaede is such a great character. I mean, I love Takeo and all, but Kaede is definitely my favorite. A strong female character in a world of men.. awesome.

I've read the first one 'Across the Nightingale Floor', and I really love it! I hope to read the other 2 sometime 
It was my love for Japan that attracted me to the book in the first place, and the culture and names and everything in the books are perfect! A really great read!! ^_^

My friend Dan loves these books. He's lending me Across the Nightingale Floor at the moment. I must start it soon, it sounds good.

Ah, I thought Dan would have started this. I'd never heard of them before Dan told us, so that's cool other people like them.
I had some free time at school the other day, and stumbled across the second book in the library. I read a chapter, and liked what I read, although I didn't know the characters, but I've now been well-warned by young Daniel not to read the second one first.
I've got a few other books I'm working my way through at the moment, but I believe Dan is going to lend me 'Across the Nightingale Floor' when I'm ready, so I shall report back when I've read it.

Well, whoever this Dan friend of yours is, he's got good taste! Lol.  The books are great.
But yes.. I wouldn't suggest reading the second one first, either. Best to start at the beginning.

Well, it doesn't look as though anybody here has finished all 3 yet, Dan. So have no fear!
I'm waiting for my library to get a copy of the third book. I refuse to pay $25 for a hardback copy - that's just crazy. But I'm itching to know what happens.. gah!
When is the movie supposed to be filmed/come out? Hmm. It could either be awesomely good, or horribly bad. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the former.

I've read the first one.
I have the second one, just finding time to read it.
I loved a.t.n.f. Loved the descriptions and stuff.
they're doing a film?
I have SUCH a bad feeling about that.
they'll change it. i don't want them to change it. I like it just as it is.

Whee! I got the third book today! I was at an English Festival, and they had Brilliance of the Moon (hardcover) on sale at a discounted price. And since that's the first place around here I've seen it for sale, and since it was cheaper than I could get it in any store, I couldn't pass up the chance. Eee, I can't wait to start reading it!

Ah, I finished it about a week ago. I won't give away any details, but let me just say that it's awesome. It's definitely better than the first two, and that's saying something.
