That certainly was an option. Initially, Deenan made some new headers and that is what started the discussion over changing the current headers. We did discuss having a contest, but have decided against it. For one, the last art contest didn't have very many participants. Secondly, we once did a contest (for the 'skins' option on the forum), and in total we had about 10 winners. Maybe more, I can't remember. Some of the winning banners were made into skins, but the others didn't. The coding behind changing the design is a lot of work for Jochen, and he is the only staff member with the level of skill in html to do it. (And it is, of course, his site) We didn't want the possibility of it either taking a long time or maybe not getting done to upset the winners. Since Deenan had already made banners, we went with hers.

I understand why it was decided that it should be done this way. But from the point of view of a Graphic Design student on her 4 month long summer holiday with nothing to do... it would have been a good distraction for me 
I've seen the banners now, thanks for pointing it out that they were on the main page. I never go there.
There are some good designs there

well, yes and no. today is the day, but we're going to tease you a little. a vote count will be given in a few days, but the actual header will not be known until jochen can work it into the site. so it's going to be a looong drum roll.

I'm really looking forward to the new header - any idea of when it'll be ready, Deenan? Had a really funny dream the other night where it got put on the site and it was just a stick figure with 'Elijah!' written above it!

LOL! that's too funny maryd! i hope it won't look like that.
cristiel and i are working on the layout, but we need information before things get really cooking. hopefully soon you will see the change. we're concentrating on the main page, but we're hoping to change the forum and enter page at the same time.
i never posted the results of the voting. i won't give out which one came out on top though.
5th place header - 118 points
4th place header - 134 points
3rd place header - 141 points
2nd place header - 199 points
1st place header - 275 points

I'm currently changing the default layout of the forum. Please don't panic when something is not working the way it should, I'll fix it asap.
Also, please don't open a thread to let us know things don't look right, I have eyes as well

Hey, I´ve just seen the changes. It looks great. This header was my third choice when I voted, but I´m happy with the way it looks...
