Hi Welcome back!
Major picspam coming up.
Best of 2011
TV ShowsThe Walking Dead, it took me months to get around to watching it, but when I started I didn't stop. I watched everything there was to see in a couple of days. Certainly not for everyone, but if you can stomach it I highly recommend it. Fringe. I don't know where to start praising this show. Story, characters, actors, music, direction, it's all interesting on this show. Pretty Little Liars is a show I still can't stop watching. The main plot is so dumb it makes me head hurt, but I love the characters so much and I think (most of) the actresses give great performances with some really interesting character developments. American Horror Story turned out to be the best new show of 2011. It had a couple of missteps here and there, but overall it is a tightly written and acted show with a really interesting plot and amazing characters. Battlestar Galactica. I just talked about loving this, so I'll just leave this here. Music Dragonette is, simply put, so much fun. I can be in any mood and Black Limousine will never fail to cheer me up. Both their albums are unashamedly fun and I love it. Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I don't know what to say about them because they're such a love them or hate them type of band. Karen O has one of the most interesting voices I've heard and the general sound of the band is almost as unique. I've said all there is to say, really. People I have no idea why I've taken such a liking to Kristen Stewart, besides being a perfect Joan Jett she really hasn't done anything that warrants the respect I have for her. I think she is really good when she's invested in projects and doesn't deserve all the hate she gets. And watching her get interviewed will never get old. I had doubts about Rooney Mara before I saw TGWTDT, but she is crazy talented. Like Kristen, she really has this unexplainable pull on me. I can't wait to see what becomes of her career. "I forgot to worry and just had fun" Movies I get why this movie flopped, but I love it. It's fun, has a great soundtrack and really cool special effects. Sometimes that is all I need from a movie. It really isn't as shallow as it seems at first, which makes it really interesting to rewatch. Everything about this movie caught me off guard. I loved it's unique take on fairytales. And Saoirse Ronan, I have no words. Same goes for the soundtrack. This is a movie that I feel like nobody has seen, but they should. The story is so good and all the actors do a great job. I really liked the direction too, subtle but very interesting. If you see this anywhere I urge you to pick it up and give it a go. (Heter Skyggesiden her i Norge) Perfect. Actors, direction, editing, music, wardrobe. It was all perfect. That is all. (Slight spoilers, but it's all from the trailer)

When I get my PC back up and running I'll be here 24/7 again
I enjoy your picspams too much I think.
"but if you can stomach it I highly recommend it." You know, I'm not actually that squeamish or easy to scare. I like the old saying "The fear is fear itself". My brother loves The Walking Dead. Tomorrow I'll run my list of current favorite things, but they may not all be new shows/songs/movies.

Oooh, I never thought of it that way before! Interesting thought!
I was supposed to start writing a university essay today. But when Marius left, I decided to tidy this place up a bit. It's so much stuff, everywhere! So now it looks a bit better here

Speaking of things that scare, I've decided to finally confront the irrational fear I have of Hannibal. After we saw that at school I have been horrified by anything related to cannibalism, to the point of avoiding things entirely if there is even a mention of it. It took years for me to even be able to look at Anthony Hopkins without freaking out. But is has to stop, I mean really, I'm 21 years old now. I ordered the trilogy last week, I'll let you know when I watch it. If I never return I probably died of fear. Literally.

This is wrong in so many ways but I actually find Anthony Hopkins pretty hot in the Hannibal movies. Wow, that's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

I think it's a charisma thing. He was gentlemanly (or at least, as gentlemanly as a cannibal can be) in The Silence of the Lambs so I think that kind of thing gets me

First of all, congratulations Marit! I hope your big day was everything you dreamed it would be.
And I confronted my fear And I survived! I could literally feel an obsession with The Silence Of The Lambs growing as I watched it. Rarely happens to me anymore, but holy ****, it is amazing.
Which brings me around to a subject that I have discussed with a few people at work lately, actors being "too much like whatever character defines them in the public mind" This is a saying that irks me to no end, because the way I see it, it's just a nicer way of calling someone a bad performer. And more importantly, whichever tick, speech pattern or mannerisms an actor brings with them to their characters isn't too much like their defining character at all, if it's too much anything it is that their personality slips though a little.
So when I read reviews that mention this I want to kick things. I recently read a review of Tanner Hall that mentioned Rooney Mara being "too similar to her Salander in Dragon Tattoo" and it just made me sad. Except for her being the same actress and her character sleeping with an older man there are no similarities. And funny enough, Tanner Hall was shot 2 years before she even started Dragon Tattoo. Same goes for NOES. So I guess it kind of proves my point, people take the most known character of an actor and project it onto anything else they're ever in.
And this goes for all actors who have been praised for their work. I have made a point of not finishing reviews that mentions this because I think it is really lazy journalism. If a performance disappoints you just say so, don't say it is too "similar" to whoever.

Oh no, how am I supposed to tell the difference between these totally similar performances without keeping a flowchart at hand

Let's say they say a movie is the worst movie ever made, so I don't watch it because of that. I'm not forming my own opinion. Whereas if I see it, I may very well enjoy the movie. Reminds me of a something one of my favorite actors said a few days ago when asked why he doesn't like award shows. He said "I don't like hype about movies, I like to actually just watch the movie. [Around award season] They take a big shotgun and they load up all their marketing money and they start blowing the movie at you. And it's nice to just see the movie on it's own terms." That's kind of how I feel, I wanna see a movie and make my own mind up about it and not be sucked into the whole hype.

I get your reasoning for not reading reviews, but I find them a helpful guideline. I watch a lot of movies, I watch every genre there is and I try to find positive things about every movie I see. The fact is that I need a little help in finding movies sometimes and I love reviews for that. But I don't read one good or bad and decide, I read tons for each movie, good bad and mediocre. The different viewpoints to the same film gives me a general sense of wether or not I'll like it. I don't have favorite reviewers, I think that is dumb. Roger Eberts opinion doesn't matter more to me than some random person on a blog.
My stomach is trying to kill me. It got so bad last night I had to go to the emergency room. I have the pain symptoms of appendicitis, but my blood test didn't agree And now I'm not sure if it hurts more because I've become so focused on it or because it's getting worse. Can't make myself relax either. I hate being this hysterical about getting sick.
