It's coming to the end of another year, and actually another decade too.  I've been reading a lot of stuff lately about the biggest news, music, films etc of the year and decade, so I thought I'd make a thread for it all.  An interesting link is this one from yahoo.com, about the biggest news stories of this year.  What do you think of it?

And, on a personal level - how did 2009 treat you?  Was it a good year?

Didn't take much notice of half the stuff in that link to be honest. 2009 has treated me very well up to now. Finished our work holiday, came home, unfortunately, moved in with the parentals and found myself a temp job I enjoy. The best news is booked ourselves for another work holiday next year, now just got to finish the year with a great Christmas

Thank you for the link Mary. They covered many of the major events but just as many are missing in my opinion.

On the other hand it seems that they focused on the UK & Ireland since many of the articles relate to the UK and it is posted on the UK & Ireland website.

Nevertheless the recap was interesting and sometimes quite emotional.

I thought that they had some events in there that weren't really all that important too, Carina and Elizabeth - I hardly even remember Balloon Boy.

I always feel slightly emotional coming up to the end of a year.  It's remembering all the good times and the bad times, and realising that no matter how long you live, there'll never be another quite like it.

2009 for me has been generally good - some big changes, but mostly with positive outcomes.  And you're right, Carina - there's still 25 days of it left, that I intend to make the most of.

2009 for me was pretty good I guess. Alot of changes, good and bad. But I think 2008 was a much better year for me. It was a really happy year... alot of sad things happened in 2009, like with my cat, and the guy and alot of stuff. but hopefully 2010 will be even better than 2008!

ps does anyone know how they'll say it, like now we just say 09, but you can't say 0 10! And 10 just sounds weird... that's been confusing me for a while...  lol

I was thinking about this too!  I suppose people will just say 'twenty ten' - you're right, just 'ten' sounds strange.

Hope everyone here has a good 2010, whatever we call it!

Some of the stories in that article really shocked me! The world is pretty crazy . I had no idea that many people have died from swine flu, it's so sad! We will make it through though.

'09 has been crazy for me personally, I moved out of my parents house and across the United States, 2,000 miles from my home. It's crazy!

I hope everyone has a good.. 010? Elijah_fan and maryd bring up a good point, how do you say that?

Me too!!  Twenty ten sounds good, I think. Yes, just 'ten' would be weird. My 2009 wasn't bad. I had some great holidays, but personally I hope that 2010 will be slightly more exciting...

I had a very nice year overall. looking back a specific things, it wasn't good lol. I lost my best friend, because she decided it was necessary to sleep with my boyfriend, which I obviously lost as well... Then I went out with a guy and I fell in love with him but as soon as I did, he wasn't ready for a serious relationship anymore... Then I dated a guy who turned out to be a player... and I got a nerves breakdown!

But... The times in between were wonderful, because, I'm not gonna lie, before all the drama, things were very very nice with all the people who would betray me in the end and I'm not gonna lie and say that nothing was nice about them. Because I had a great time with all of these people, it's just sad how things ended. And because of my best friend, I got myself a new best friend and he's the best. He was there for me when I had noone else to turn to and he's just so sweet. My summer was great as well, I had a blast.. and honestly... looking back at 2009... I wouldn't want to change too much about it.

And do you know what's even more sad? That just as many people die from regular flue every year!

2009 has been a good year for me. Finished High School (or what's close to that in Norway) and moved to another city to start at the university! Been togheter with my boyfriend for two years and now we live together.

I've gotten lots of new friends and love this city! And I also love studying at an university

haha, me and my friends were discussing that a while back. "yay! happy ... 10?"

My 09 has been rather uneventful. Oh, i did turn 21. And i did get drunk... and i didn't die, didn't get sick, and didn't get raped as I had always been lead to believe would happen if i got drunk.  Oh, and I started taking Tae Kwon Do this year... lovin' it.  AND, i've started writing a trilogy... which I shall hopefully get done and super hopefully get published by 2010 (well, the first book in the trilogy, at least.)

A slightly disheartening realization came to me on my 21st birthday... as I discussed my friend's wedding ... I realized that in 21 years, I have only had 1 serious boyfriend.... and since I rarely got to see him and he lived so far away, some would not even consider that a serious relationship (even though it was, imo.) But, I have decided not to let such things get me down... I shall focus on my book ... and maybe ... MAYBE ... get lucky and get it published, get all well-known, and then marry hayden christensen... cause I always said I would date that boy if i ever became famous. LOL.

Edit:

And now, because i posted this, i'm stuck on youtube watching vids of hayden christensen... haha. Damn that boy is sexy.

Stop reading my signature. Don't deny it. You're reading it. I can see you. You're giving it the casual little once-over. How rude. Didn't your mother teach you better?

haha, seriously! My parents always acted like if I had a drink of alcohol, then something horrible would happen and my life would go into turmoil. Granted, I know you should be -cautious- when drinking alcohol.... and not be dumb by driving yourself around or get so drunk you become oblivious or get alcohol poisoning... But I had a few drinks with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. I just had fun.

My mom is just like that! Haha and I drank this year as well, I started 2009 with my very first night drinking and it was very nice haha

When my mum found out I drink every now and then she was like: Why do you do that?! You can have fun with just a coke, can't you?! lol she's totally against me drinking, but she's calmed down now and she's like: "Well... just one or two drinks ever now and again should be fine... but now too much!!"
