I voted no, but now I come to think of it... it's actually pretty neutral.

I hate the learning part, I can't stand the classed, but the fun I have with my friends would never be there if it wasn't for school you know. School is a place you meet up with your friends and from there you meet up at other places as well, right?

I'm still in Grammar school, high school, but this is my final year. I graduate in May, June, and after that I am going to study psychology at uni. I'm looking forward to it, I'm sick of high school. I feel I'm too old to be there, I've been there 6 years now, as people usually do in grammar school, but it's been too long. I can't stand another year, so I really HAVE to graduate.

Yes ... You are right.School is best place that we can meet with our friends.I think,it is good only for school.Actually, you can meet with them in another place. But,friendship weakens some when school finishes ... Because, everybody must choose a new way and it is able to be far away from you ! ... :8

What is a grammar school ? ... I am happy that you will graduate and psychology sounds well ! ... Sick ? Yes,I was sick when I was in high school. But,I am sure, you will miss everything when you gradute and you wanna be back ! ...

Erm.. here in Holland we have a different form of high school. We have like different levels, 4 to be exact.
From low to high:
- VMBO, takes 4 years and it's for kids who have difficulty studying and stuff.
- HAVO, takes 5 years and it's for kids who are okay studying, but who would just work with their hand, rather than working with their heads.
- Atheneum, takes 6 years to finish, it's for kids who can study fairly easily.
- Gymnasium, also called Grammar school, also takes 6 years and is the same as Atheneum. The only difference it that I have ancient Greek and/or Latinclasses.

LOL, found this an interesting topic to read about, so here's my view on things:

School, as a concept of a place where people can get together to learn (both from someone who has mastered something and then also from each other), seems to be something to "like".

Schools (or visiting one of them), on the more "in reality" side of life, are often frustrating, discouraging, boring, incredibly stereotypical, and, in many places, costly experiences which are certainly "not fun" (and thus disliked).

I chose "Like" since I am aware that without school(s) my life would have turned out quite "differently" (and rather not to the better). I admit that I encountered many things which were rather disturbing, but eventually everything I lived through (at least in part) made me who I am today, and as I like myself, I think it's only fair to say that I like what brought me (t)here.

Then again there are many (!!) aspects of school(s) that, I think, should be improved (teaching students how to productively cope with failure being on top of my wish list there). But all in all, I think we're better of with (even partly disfunctional) schools than without...

^ Here in Northern Ireland, a grammar school is just a secondary school, but you have to do well in the 11+ exam (that you take at the end of primary school, aged 11) to get into one.  The education system here is changing, and nobody knows what's going to happen.

I'm at a grammar school myself, and I find the lessons fairly intensive - but on the whole, I think I made the right choices for me about my subjects.  I study just 4 - Irish, French, History and Art - and I really enjoy them.

As well as my classes, I love the whole atmosphere.  Mine is quite a small school and there is hardly any bullying and things like that.  Me and my friends have a laugh at lunch and break and there's all sorts of traditions and customs that make you feel like you're part of a huge family in the school.  It's great. And that's why I voted 'Like'.

I love school. Like, woah.
Highschool is the best invention ever. And I love my school especially.
I think it's probably because I went to private school my entire life, and when I finally went to public for sophomore year, it was like a really big eye opener for me. It's so different... but in a good way.
And even though we're poor and are too small for 2500 students... it's still awesome. The kids are so nice, and the teachers.
And theater is my favorite thing.
And choir.

And I bet if it didn't have those sorts of things, I would hate it. But I can get past all the boring stuff as long as the fun stuff is there.

Oh God - No!!!  It's been a long time since I was at school, but I hated every minute of it - especially High School.

When you're a shy kid like I was, school is torture ... also, I never felt like I really fit in with the other kids whose interests I didn't share.

Luckily for me, I always had one or two good friends, and enjoyed some subjects such as Art and English... which was almost enough to tide me over till that blessed day when I could leave the place forever!

BTW, in Australia, "Grammar Schools" are usually very posh private schools.  Most people go to government operated State High Schools from age 13-17.

Pam - I understood.Your education system is more different than ours.Let's read our system ...

1- For 3-7 years old children : Kindergarten
2-For 7-15 years old children : Primary School

We have a big exam to go to best high schools after primary school. It was happening when you finish primary school (3 years),when I was in primary school and called " LGS " This exam was containing 120 questions about maths, science classes,Turkish, history, geography and taking about 2 hours. If you had a good result, you could choose a high school which is fitting your result.Their names are " Science High School,Anatolia Teacher High School and Anatolia High School " If your result wasn't good, you could choose " Normal High School or Technical High School " ... My high school was a Anatolia High School and it is 3rd best school of my city !  Now,education system which is after primary school is is changed.I don't have any information about new one ! ...

3- For 15-18 years old teenagers : High Schools

We choose a department when we are in 10th class.Their names are " Science,Maths-Turkish,Turkish (and history, geography, philosophy ...),English-German-French " ... My department was science.I have been regretful to choose it ! ... It is hardest one and contains " maths, chemistry, physics, biology ... " ... We have again a huge exam called " OSS " when we graduate. This exam contains 180 questions and takes about 3.5 hours.Questions are in maths,Turkish, history, geography, philosophy, chemistry, biology ... You answer questions which are concerned with your high school department.Example : I answered only Turkish, history, geography, philosophy, maths (All students have to answer these questions !) and chemistry, physics, maths ! You have to have a good result to choose a good university. You can go to university and choose uni department that is fitting your high schools department. For example : A student who graduated maths-Turkish department in high school isn't able to be a doctor or nurse ! ... Actually, this exam is most important exam of your life.Cause, you can choose your future and job though this exam.I read news about this exam (OSS) on newspaper 3 weeks ago.Its said " OSS is one of hardest exams in world ! " Thats completely right. You have to study much much much to reach your targets ! ... I wanna tell an OSS memory which happened 5 years ago when I was in exam.A student had a heart attack suddenly during exam and she died.It was very upset and terrible. She heart attacks reason was exams worry and she was afraid much ! ...

4- For 17-22 years old teenagers : University (Different faculties have different years for graduating. For example : You have to have education 6 years if you wanna a doctor ! ... My faculty takes 4 years for graduating and its name is " science-literature faculty " ... I admit,it is one of hardest faculties ! ...)

My God ! ... I hope,I could tell well.If you have question about this subject, lets ask me lol ! ...

Mary - My country is same of you.Cause, our all educations system changes about every year. And,its very hard to be accustomed again ! ...

Your lessons looks entartaiment and good.I am glad that you had a right choice about your education.Yeah,my high school was small too.I think, small schools are better and pretty ! ... You are right, school has funny things too. But,bad and boring things and events are more than others ! ...  And what do you wanna be in your future, sweet ?

EWx3 - I am glad that you like your school. Are you in a private school now ? ... I think, some public school are better than private schools. If you study, you can success everywhere, right ?

Elizabeth - Yes,I always hate like you ! ...

Gem - No ! High school was my greatest and best time of school.I have understood it since I graduated and have had a university ! ...

You are right.I am a shy teenager like you.Thats trashy ! ... But,I am tryin' to be fit in other friends.I hope,I can success my best ! ...

I hate art. But,english ... Its an incredible and excellent lesson for me ! ...

And ... I can answer your questions,if you have one avout our education system and my school life ! ...

Seyma - your education system has some similarities with ours.  We do an exam at the end of primary school too, and if you do well in it you can go to the best schools.  In the new system, though, there will be no exam and pupils will go to the nearest school.  I think it's awful - if I had gone to the closest school to me instead of doing well in the exam, I wouldn't have the grades I have now.

That's terrible about the girl that died in her exam!  It must be so stressful!

As for what I want to be when I grow up...I'm not too sure yet.  I might like to teach French in an Irish school or something.  I'm sort of hoping that when I get my degree I'll come across something that suits me.  i'd love to be an EU translator...but I guess that's really hard to get a job in.

Mary - This is a great job choice ! ... Being a translator was my second dream if I could choose English grammer department.I think, being a translator was best job for me.But,I couldn't make my dreams true ! ...    And ... I have one more chance for it.If I can go an english course,I am able to be a translator still ! ...

Hmm Interesting! We have kindergarten and primary school as well and after primary we take the so called CITO-test, to see what school fits you best. So on that level we've got the same systems.

Yeah, I think it's a good thing kids need to study to reach their goals, even though I hate studying myself too. I think it teaches discipline and it keeps the kids busy, because if they're not busy, they go out hanging about and that's stupid. I think it's a good thing kids learn to work hard if they want to reach a goal, it makes them better grown ups.

And don't worry, sweetheart... So many people have succeeded, why wouldn't you make it through?
