Thanks for the link Jen, it doesnt seem disturbing to me but then again in britain there is a lot of teen pregnancies and young mum and dads. There should be a better approach to the subject.

I heard this on the news yesterday and actually, it is very rare for a boy to father a child that young.  Maybe it is more common for a 13 year old girl to get pregnant than a 13 year old boy to father a child.  I think it's a shame - I just don't think parents that young can support a child properly.

I agree with you Mary.  When I heard about this I was stunned.  Even to hear him talk about his daughter it's clear he's not mature enough to be a father.  "I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad.  I will be good, though, and care for it."  It?  She's your daughter not an it.  The poor boy doesn't even know what financially means.  And the babies mother should have known better than to have slept with a 12 year old boy!

This reminds me of a song i heard. "sl*ttier younger" (can be heard on www.myspace.com/adamandandrew ... it's like... song number 5 on the playlist.) haha.

It's really stupid that kids are having sex at this age. I barely knew what sex -was- when i was 13, and i'd never even kissed a guy. I really have to wonder wtf the parents were thinking in this situation. I don't know what the policy is over there on birth control, but here you have to have parental consent to get it. If your 15 year old daughter walked up and said she was ready to have sex, wouldn't you ... uh ... explain to her why she wasn't? No person that age is responsible enough to handle the emotional and physical consequences of sex.

What's sad is that it's becoming the 'norm' for young high school kids to have sex. I was reading through some blogs on gurl.com and saw a lot of 14/15 yr olds talking about how they'd already had sex. or they'd be like "I'm 14 and i'm still a virgin!!  " I'm 20 years old and i'm still a virgin. Do i regret this? not at all. The emotions that come with sex can be overwhelming, and the consequences of sex (hello babies) can completely alter the path of your life. Plus it's not safe to go around doing whatever you want with all the STIs and STDs out there today. You're gonna have your entire adult life to have sex, and it's stupid to rush it. So stop having kids, kids.

Stop reading my signature. Don't deny it. You're reading it. I can see you. You're giving it the casual little once-over. How rude. Didn't your mother teach you better?

There is no consent needed in this country is because in the governments clouded minds it's supposed to stop this kind of situation happening.

Sorry if I've misunderstood here, Jess, but she might not have been on the Pill because of sex, she may have been on it to help with her periods.  I was offered the Pill when I was 14 to help with mine.  As I say, I may have understood you there and apologies if I have

The thing that gets me is there seems to be no reaction from their parents.  And you can bet if me or my brother had had a baby at 12-13 years old ours parents wouldn't be putting us in the newspaper.

Also at their age I was terrified of sex!

Victoria - I agree with what you said about making this story public.  If I had children and one of them had a baby at 13, I would be really embarrassed - people would think I hadn't raised them right.

I just hope, for the baby's sake, that the grandparents step in and help out.

I don't know why but nothing makes me Surprised these days even such thing ...

but honestly why to blame those kids for having sex while we saw it or hear remarks about it almost every day at the mass media especially  ?

it became a very usual thing to talk or discuss such things nowadays without caution , as if we are talking about normal thing.......

We as Middle eastern are famous of being so closed minded about sex..but im not with keeping it secret or talking freely about it ...i mean to be average like knowing it educationally ...not putting it in our daytime discussions..

its also a taboo here to have sex before marriage...so we rarely see such things here...

But sex is a normal thing, there's nothing dirty or unnatural about.  It's not wrong.  Talking about sex freely isn't the problem, it's educating people about it.  People who don't like to talk about sex (in the West at least) tend (not always) to fall into trouble early because they don't know about it.  My parents have always been very open with me about sex, if I ever had or have a question about sex I can ask them and they'll tell me.  Maybe this little boy and this girl weren't able to talk to their parents about these things and so they ventured out and got into trouble.  If we don't educate the younger generation about sex, pregnancy, STI's, STD's, and the psychologial and emotional effects of sex then what else should we expect other than babies having babies.  Education is the key.

You can't blame the media, every single child is 'exposed' to these images everyday at least but not all of them become pregnant at an early age.  As I stated above, I was aware of sex (or at least, how babies were made) when I was young, and so when I reached 12 or 13 I started to talk about with my friends and we watched msuic videos (e.g. Christina Aguilera's Dirrty), and TV shows (e.g. Sex and the City) but I don't have a baby.  You can't wholly blame the media for what society does.  We make our own choices in life.  I watch murder shows it doesn't mean I'm going to go out killing everybody because I saw it on TV.  We as a society make our own choices.

Well Vix, it's the fact that sex is still a taboo for too many people that's the problem really. Many people don't talk about it, which causes kids to be less educated than they should be. Kids these days are not educated well enough, but they're sexually active at younger age than most people like to believe.

Obviously, the kid hasn't been educated well enough, or he would have had at least protected sex.

OMG I can't believe that dad! I know, I know, you can't keep your eyes on your kid the entire time, but hello... to say he's proud of his son that he puts his PlayStation aside to be a dad... RIDICULOUS if you ask me! That kid, obviously doesn't know how to take care of a baby and he prolly thinks it's a cute little baby he can play with. He prolly doesn't think about how to raise the kid, how to bring it up, how to take care of it...

I actually think it is some sort of childabuse... How can these two kids take care of a baby and how can they help the baby become a normal person and give it everything it needs? Aweful

I completely agree.  When parents aren't fit to be caregivers, as in the case of these two children, someone should intervene.  Additionally, parents of children who have kids at such a young age shouldn't be proud of them for their responsibility, of all things.  Wasn't it irresponsibility that got them into that mess in the first place.

Kids need to be EDUCATED on sex and its consequences way before they even THINK about having it.  Today, adults are too opposed to each other to realize that teen pregnancies are becoming a bigger and bigger problem.  People are too concerned with what they "believe" to even try to make a plan to reduce these numbers.

I agree that education is the key.  But as well as that, I don't think children should be exposed to sex very much - alright, yes, it is a natural thing and there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not suitable for children as young as these two.

Have you heard that the girl is getting a DNA test for the baby? A friend of the 13-year old dad has spread a rumour that the baby isn't his after all.  What a mess.

Mmm.
We were talking about this in chemistry the other day.
it's pretty sad. I mean, both those families are drastically changed now... it's completely different.
And they all know that the Dad can't take responsibility.
And can't actually BE a Dad for the kid...
it's sad, really.
