I have heard of Pologamy before but yesterday I saw a program about the Bishop Winston Blackmore of Bountiful who has 30 wives more than 100 children.
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy
SEVEN women have taken their fight against polygamy and the politicians who do nothing about it to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. In a complaint filed with the tribunal in late May, the complainants allege the Bountiful commune near Creston is part of a polygamist network in which women and children are "regarded as chattels." They also allege women there are passed from one "celestial husband" to another and girls as young as 13 are made into concubines. One complainant, Debbie Palmer, says she was given in "marriage" to a 57-year-old man when she was 15. After being assigned to two more "harems" and discovering several cases of child sexual abuse, she fled with her eight children in 1988, at the age of 32. "It's basically incest and pedophilia that's going on there, in our opinion," says Jancis Andrews of Sechelt, who has been actively lobbying the government to do something about the commune. The women also allege in their complaint that children are taught racist and sexist beliefs at a school within the commune that receives provincial funding, and that Bountiful has become a safe haven for polygamists fleeing a recent crackdown in Utah. Polygamy is wrong, in my opinion. I saw something about this on Dr. Phil a few weeks ago, I think the same one that they're talking about in the 2nd link. Why would you want multiple wives? And they fill these messages in these women's heads, telling them they're inferior to men and that they need to be a great mother and worship their husband. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Stop reading my signature. Don't deny it. You're reading it. I can see you. You're giving it the casual little once-over. How rude. Didn't your mother teach you better?

Oh man, I saw this on the news like two months ago. And the women married to these men deny it, . I can't believe this is happening in Canada.
The news program showed the women of that town saying how everything is as it should be with their religion or whatever, and how they disagree with all the publicity on how what's going on there is wrong.
It makes me angry because they've all been brainwashed by those creepy men that treat them like dirt. I just want to go shake their heads and knock some sense into them.
It's really sad. Because they don't get much of an education, never see outside the walls of their town, and don't understand what really is going on.

I watched a programme Oprah did about this yesterday. There were some girls from polygamist 'cults' where they were forced to marry their relatives to keep the bloodlines pure and have their children when they were only about 15 and younger. They had no rights because they were one of ten or more wives. And because of inbreeding lots of their children were born with really bad birth defects and diseases, and then they were just left to die. It's terrible that this is allowed to happen. One woman who left her husband was threatened with murder because she spoke out about it. These women have no rights at all and that's just wrong.

Rai, thats pretty messed up.
I mean, take away the fact that its all a tad creepy and weird, but these women are being treated like crap when they are pumping out kids at 15 or less!
These cults/religious groups (whatever!) should be brought down.
