Is anyone a vegetarian? Why did you become one and when. I'd like to know some people who are veggies like me! If you aren't a vegetarian try out this website: www.meetyourmeat.com I'm telling you it will change your life. I became one after i saw all of the horrible conditions in factory farms and how the animals are treated. Its HORRIBLE!!

I am not a vegetarian, although I used to be a few years ago. However, I'm not particularly fond of meat, because of the taste and the texture mainly. Nowadays, my mum and I eat mainly vegetables, rice, pasta, and substitutes for meat, here in England this is called "Quorn". It's tastes really nice, a little bit like the actual meat but it's made up of vegetables mainly. Nowadays I eat fish and sometimes chicken as well.

well, i watched the video. ... and while i felt bad for those animals, it doesn't effect me nearly as much as other things.
Plus, i mean, i grew up on a pig farm... and, yes, the hogs were slaughtered. They lived very good lives up until they were taken to the slaughter house. They were cooled on a regular basis by sprinklers, their pins were cleaned, they were seperated by size so everyone could eat (bigger pigs will not let littler pigs eat)... they really lived quite a respectable life... and i don't really agree that pigs have emotions and thoughts like humans since their behavoir often indicates otherwise... but, that's just my opinion.
Oh, and i could never be a vegitarian. lol, i hate veggies! i'm the most un-healthy person in the world.

Wow, Jess, you make a very good point. I really don't see how some people can be vegetarians because they don't believe in being cruel to animals, but think that abortion is okay at the same time. I mean, I'm not sure what anyone on this thread thinks about abortion and stuff, but I totally agree with Jessica. After seeing those pictures and reading that article, I don't see how anyone could say that abortion wasn't cruel.
Quote:| Oh, and i could never be a vegitarian. lol, i hate veggies! i'm the most un-healthy person in the world. | Well, I like veggies . . . but I would still never be a vegetarian. It really . . . really . . . seems very pointless to me to not eat meat, especially when I like it. No offense, I've just never really seen the point. Seeing that I've never met a person that was actually a vegetarian in person, though, maybe I just have never heard reasoning behind behind a vegetarian first-hand, and that's why I've never understood it. We'll eat nearly anything where I'm from, and I've never even thought about reasoning for not eating it.

I used to be a strict vegetarian.. Now I eat little of chicken or fish occasionally but I try to stick to vegetables as much as I can. Humans are omnivors so we can consume both.. As far as the abortion thing goes... I'm not even going to go there...

Uh ... I remember trying to watch that video. I stopped after 30 seconds or so and I won't try again.
I'm a vegetarian and have been for 2 years now. Before that I ate chicken occcasionally, and I wasn't really picky about getting the meat out of my spaghetti sauce though I hardly ever ate steak or something like that. I've never been a meat-lover. At 12 I declared myself a vegetarian just because I was getting sick of having to eat so much meat (my father loved it so when he was home we often had it for dinner). The main reason back then was simply my dislike for it. Now I am one because of the very same reasons you are Aly and a couple of other reasons as well, but I won't discuss them now.
@Jess: As far as abortion goes, I am pro-choice. This might sound contradictive to you and Kari, but there is a large difference in the suffering the fetus and the animals must endure (The fetus doesn't feel anything until it's nervous system is developed. The animals can feel it and are basically tortured to death). It makes me sad that some people really don't care about this.
I am not a vegetarian because I think nobody should eat animals, but the way they are kept and treated is very alarming.

It's murder. Killing an animal isn't. Why? There's a big difference between people and animals. People are far more important in my eyes.

I see people and animals as equals that both SHARE the planet together and can live together ....Without going into it .. which I seem to be... what makes us so superior? Our lack of understanding of the rest of life on this planet??? Are we so omnipotent???

we share the planet, but, yes, humans are the dominant species. I've never seen another animal that has the identical capacities of a human. If we were equal, and on the same level, why should we care about protecting them? If it's "survival of the fittest" and we are, quite obviously, the fittest, shouldn't we kill them all? have u ever seen an animal spare some other animal out of pity if it plans on killing it? Some animals eat their own young. Female spiders eat the male spiders after they mate... should we eat men after we screw them? Animals can't transfer their anger, frustration, happiness, sadness, or any such emotion into anything creative or useful, as humans can. ... no, i deffinately think that we are superior.

well, i've seen at least 3 anti-bush threads, yet no one complains about those being abundent... but, jee o, mention religion and everyone flies off the wall. --but, i know, religion gets "pushy". anyway, honestly, no. i wasn't going to bring religion into it at all. That is my logical deducting of the subject. I want to see an animal get up and protest for my life to be spared. Then i shall have as much respect for them as i do people.
