it was the beginning of the year that a rumor was out that elijah was going to be in a horror/thriller film called the home. as of this week, news hit the internet that elijah is in fact co-producing the film.
SYNOPSIS: The Home unfolds after a young man is nearly killed during a horrible accident that leaves him physically and emotionally scarred. To recuperate, he is taken to a secluded nursing home where the elderly residents appear to be suffering from delusions. But after witnessing a violent attack, he soon realizes that the screams behind the walls are caused by more than hallucinations, and the residents are being preyed upon by twisted, monstrous nightmares that lurk within the home itself.
"Our producers are Franck Ribiere and Verane Frediani, who produced that great French gore-fest Inside," Vespe announces. "They have started a new production company called Overlook Entertainment and will be producing our movie under that banner. Franck and Verane have been fantastic so far and very supportive. Also producing is actor Elijah Wood. He's not appearing in the movie, but has been very enthusiastic and has taken the reins on producing alongside Franck, Verane and New Zealand producer Annette Wullems [of King Kong]."
the first artworks for the film are a bit creepy, but WETA will be handling the special effects.
creepy artwork 1 really creepy artwork 2
filming is suppose to start in may, so we'll see what other news comes. if you want to read more about the film and how elijah got into it read on.

Thanks for this Deenan. Interesting to see that Elijah will be co-producing. Even if he's not on screen, it's nice to have a little movie news.

Thanks for the info Deenan.
Does anyone know what a film producer actually does, though? I have no idea what it involves, or which areas of the film are a producer's responsibility.

Good question. If I understand it correctly a producer is someone who acts as a link between (for example) the editors on one side and the authors, directors and camera crew on the other side. A producer is responsible for the organizational supervision of the project. The producer's tasks are very varied and can include the search for ideas and authors, the assessment of the script and advising the directors on the shooting schedule.

Thanks Carina - producing sounds fascinating - I'm sure Elijah will have a lot of fun with it. Of course, I'd love to see him in front of the camera as well.....but since this is a horror film - and a very grisly one by the look of it - I wouldn't be able to watch it anyway. I can't watch horror or anything with lots of gore without suffering terrible nightmares of my own - so I'd have to give this a miss!

Doesn't a producer have something to do wih coordinating the project's finances, as well as time-frames and production schedules?
Yeah, I admit it, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to film-making ...most of my knowledge comes from the behind-the-scenes editions of LOTR

carina explained the duties of a producer of a movie. if you've ever seen a movie... .... you may notice different producers. here is the breakdown of the majors:
Producer: the individual who has the greatest involvement and oversight among a film's various producers.
Executive producer: In major productions, usually a representative or CEO of the film studio - although the title may be given as an honorarium to a major investor - often oversees the financial, administrative and creative aspects of production, though not technical aspects.
Co-producer: A producer who reports to the Executive Producer and provides money to finance a project. In large productions, the co-producer is more involved in the day-to-day production. In independent projects, the title can connote an involvement in the inception of the production.
Associate producer: Usually acts as a representative of the Producer, who may share financial, creative, or administrative responsibilities, delegated from that producer. Often, a title granted as a courtesy or to one who made a major financial or creative contribution to the production. Associate producer is occasionally used as a token credit.
Assistant producer: Usually works under the direction of the Associate Producer.
...and there's a lot more on a movie.
when a movie win best picture, it's the producers who takes home the actual award.
since elijah is listed as the only co-producer he's put up some cash and is available daily for any help.

Elizabeth - I haven't heard an exact release date, I don't know the film has actually started being filmed yet...anyways, I don't think you've missed it.
