The film was a great success there. This just in from the producer and posted with his permission:
"Got back from Moscow yesterday -- what an incredible 5 days. Bryan [Gunnar Cole, director] and I literally barely slept at all. In the midst of it all we had two fantastic screenings of Day Zero. They were well attended with extremely eager/interested Q&A afterwards (including some requests for Elijah's phone number...)
I had no idea what to expect re: the reaction to the film by a Russian audience. But if the festival crowd was any indication, the film definitely plays there, especially among younger (call it age 15-35) people. Interestingly, rather than subtitle, the festival did real-time translation ala the United Nations -- a translator sat in a booth with a written transcript (which we provided) that had been translated ahead of time. And the audience listened through little headsets which were provided for free.
Anyway, an unforgettable time in an incredible city.
I'm back in NYC for a few days, then off to Europe for Barcelona, London, and Lyon...."
Yay! O/ Great news, isn't it? I hope the remaining festivals go this well. There's every reason to expect that they will; the film is awesome.

WOOHOO! that's wonderful news yeux!
it's great to hear the audience ate up the movie, and i know it'll be the same at the next festivals. ages 15-35 would be the target audience no? doesn't matter if they're russian, english, french or american. this subject affects us all.
pretty interesting about the translation too. i wonder if that's ever been done before? again, great news!
ps. maybe mr. moody had a secret conference about distribution?

And I agree it would play well in this country among that age group as well as it's extremely relevant to current events. I hope the producer is successful in getting a wide release here. It's great that they keep you updated with DZ news

i feel not only those 15-35 will find this subject intriguing, but also those who were in korea and vietnam. i'm sure they faced the same personal issues that aaron, dixon and george are facing.
you know, there are some films out now dealing with the subject of war. there's an indie with tommy lee jones called "in the valley of elah" where his son goes AWOL, and another indie "rescue dawn" about two men trying to survive in vietnam which made over $100,000 it's first weekend in only 6 theaters. "elah" averaged slightly higher in 9 theaters.
yes, i do my homework.
i'm sure with the right kind of promoting, day zero will definitely see the same results.

Thanks for posting Yeux! I can just imagine a load of people asking for Elijah's phone number....  
15-35 target age group? Well, I'm 16, and its definately the kind of film Id love to see (and not just for Elijah) but I'm not too sure about my friends. Maybe 15 is pushing it.

First Look Studios has acquired... military drama "Day Zero" and set release date Jan. 18.
