Great to hear about a new film, but in my opinion no offense, the genre doesn't seem really interesting to me. It sounds an awful lot like another 'Jarhead' type movie, which I have almost no interest in. There's been so many courage-soldier-war movies around and you just get tired of the ever popular known plot sometimes. Not that I have anything against soldiers or anything.

i don't know blue star, but this sounds more like what these people are going to do IF they were drafted, not in an actual war. i don't know what era this is supposed to be set in...vietnam, korea, WWII, iraq? but if it's set as the latter, i think it would be interesting to see what this would be like seeing the draft is no longer. what would happen if they brought it back, and what would these men think about it?
btw, i read that this movie is only going to be a 4 week shoot.

I like the sound of this film.
I would like to know who the other actors are that play the friends. I just hope it gets enough recognition for a wide release.
Oh, I just found out - Chris Klein is in it - maybe he plays one of the friends.

Hmm... Iraq came to my mind too, D. So I had a burst of political wonder about it, but maybe it has nothing to do with that.

Yeah, I agree, a current setting would be most interesting a la "we don't have enough volunteers for this or that war (Iraq?) - let's reintroduce the draft".
If it's set in the past like e.g. Vietnam it does remind me - little as we know of it now - a bit of The Year That Trembled.

The plot description for Day Zero is...
Quote:| The military draft is back. Three best friends are drafted and given 30 days to report for duty. In that time they're forced to confront everything they believe about courage, duty, love, friendship and honor. If called to serve, what would you do? |
So it isn't a war movie. It's a movie about the draft.
It's about how three people react to being drafted if the draft is started up again now. How they handle the 30 days till they are supposed to report.

I read on some other Elijah website (can't recall which one right now) that Elijah is already in NYC starting to film "Day Zero."

I read that too, but it was an indirect thing -- I heard someone say that she read that... you get the idea. I personally haven't heard anything firsthand or reliable yet.
It sounds like it could be fascinating! I wonder if Elijah chose it because of the question of draft reinstatement, and because the film will make people think... one of the best reasons to make a movie.

I agree with that comment. A movie about draft reinstatement is a "message." Especially as there was some talk about whether the draft would have to be reinstated due to what is going on in Iraq. However, I believe that I heard it is not going to be (or won't need to be).
I took a look at the photos of that girl who's in Day Zero with Elijah. (Check out IMDB.com). Not his type. At all.
