Actually, that's somewhat inaccurate; a fair number of his movies have been at least moderately prominent, in terms of distribution. (I think it was a surprise for everybody when Try 17 didn't get distributed...)
By his own admission, "Ash Wednesday" was an unusual movie choice -- not because of the material, though. I read in some interview that he wanted something short, after a year and a half in NZ.
Christina Ricci does the same thing, I've noticed. (On one hand we have Sleepy Hollow, on the other we have Pumpkin)

The one thing I have always thought was great about Elijah
was his desire to do what interested him and not to go "Hollywood"
so to speak, and my comments were not ment to criticize his choices.
When your an actor as talented as he is, and your work starts to "get lost" (try going to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video and rent those movies I mentioned) it's frustrating for those who want to enjoy his work not to mention those people who have not had the benifit of being exposed to those films. His early work you can find pretty much anywhere, but his Indie work is tough to find. And I think that is a shame.

Ahh.. But there's always E-Bay, or Buy.com, or one of those places that sells all sorts of stuff on DVD.. I'm sure you'll find all Elijah movies on the net for sale.. You'd prolly even be able to get "Chain of Fools" for all we know.. neh??
It's the neatness of the internet.. Not only that! There's people who make it easier for you and they give you every scene that Elijah is on in a film that is hard to find *cough*chainoffools*cough*.. They make video files of every scene he is on! LOL.. 
That's what I love about the NET!!

Maybe I'm lucky, but I could get "Bumblebee" or B&W if I wanted; I haven't chosen to, that's all. Try 17 isn't available yet... and I concede that "Chain" isn't available. More's the pity -- it sounds brilliant. I think it would do well if they got off their bottoms and did something.

Bag End Inn HAD all the scenes that Elijah was in! That was GRAND!!
But I don't think they have em anymore..
Maybe they still do I don't know.. I love that place!! (The Bag End Inn)

I went to see "LOTR" in MEXICO!!! GEEBUZ!!! LOL.. I crossed the border to watch FRODO!! And that's when I was reminded how much I Really liked ELijah.. MAN!!! I remember!! LOL.. F**C**NG HELL!!! LOL.. That was EXCELLENT!!

I do agree. it is a pity that most of the work that I'm so very interested to see is the indie work that Elijah has done.
I think that he's made some good choices, and I think that it's an artistic choice he's made, to make such movies.
But, if it's so difficult to get the above mentioned movies, I can't say it's any easier where I live. So,out of all the indie movies that was mentioned, I've only got to watch was Black n White. Which I thought was really good. And that was rare too, cos it was shown over HBO at an ungodly hour over here!
You girls have no idea how much I want to see Elijah play something else other than a hobbit for once.

Unfortunately not everyone has access to Ebay or some of these sites, because not everyone has a computer.
There is, however, a Blockbuster or Hollywood video on almost every street corner.
If they don't have these films how are they going to know he has other movies out there.
Seven, Eggo, I was reading your comments on the thread on roles we would like to see Elijah in. I agree with both of you. I hope he has the opportunity to explore other roles that can really challenge him.
I think he would be perfect as pure evil. Who would ever suspect that angelic face? When his head is shaved he can look like a real psycho.
