Wonder why it's called Bobby, though, since it sounds like it's more focused on those around him.
They MIGHT get wider release, but it's hard to say... it's not a clear-cut, linear storyline, but a slice of life. That's a hard movie to sell....
|
Napoleon Dynamite was definitely a slice of life independent movie. Initially. And it was widely released by MTV. You never know...
By the way, do we know what his character's name is yet?

Charlie Sheen has signed to play a role in the Bobby Kennedy flick which will be directed by his brother, Emilio Estevez. Lindsay Lohan, Mos Def and Estevez himself are rumoured to make cameos.

Wonder if any of this is true?

Quote from: Carina on October 05, 2005, 03:54:57 pm I'm assuming that the film will be done in stages, with those parts being filmed first for which they have actors already. | That would make sense. Other films with large casts have been done that way.
Quote:| Maybe it will be a film which feels more like a documentary, with all the people being shown separately, doing what they do in their life, but at the end this tragedy brings them together. | No way to know at this point what Emilio has in mind, but this would certainly be one way to do it.

I agree that sounds really good. It has an interesting historical potential and perspective.
Also, I'd like to see how Elijah gets with this. Obviously, getting married to avoid the draft, they must be some little moments involving the crisis involved. When I heard about it, I thought about some girl he knew that had loved him all his life that he knew would marry him that he, at first, minght have a certain amount of contempt for. Did anyone see Muriel's Wedding? Kinda like that...
He also played a husband, per se, in Deep Impact

Yes, you are right... Now the question is who will play his wife... because I think Leelee Sobieski didnīt suit him as his couple... I hope they will make a better choice this time!!

Quote from: Enara on October 18, 2005, 12:19:59 pm Well, now we know.
Too bad there's some bad vibes already...
Kennedy conspiracy theories continue BY PHILIP POTEMPA ppotempa@nwitimes.com 219.852.4327 Early criticism
Monday's column included an item about Emilio Estevez's new film project about the night Robert F. Kennedy was gunned down.
His movie "Bobby," which centers around the lives of people who were at the Ambassador Hotel at the time of the assassination, already has people, especially history researchers buzzing, and not about the all-star cast of Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore and Elijah Wood.
I received an e-mail Tuesday from Jonn G. Christian, author of "Robert F. Kennedy: A Searching Look at The Conspiracy and Cover-up -- 1968-1978" (Thunder's Mouth Press, 1993).
"I've been following progress of 'Bobby' since its inception, some three years back, when he first proceeded to deride and ridicule anyone or anything that raised the numerous unresolved issues of conspiracy and cover-up," Christian wrote.
"If 'Bobby' tries to forward the often times melodramatic and purely exploitative twists and turns of Estevez's all-too-often immature imagination (e.g., ignoring issues placed in question), a grotesque charade will have been foisted off on a nation desperately seeking to resurrect democracy amidst the ruins of a rapidly approaching brutal totalitarian manifestation of nazi-fascism."
Ironically, Christian says one of his "more dedicated fans" is none other than Martin Sheen, Estevez's father.
Opinions expressed are solely those of the writer. Reach him at ppotempa@nwitimes.com or 219.852.4327.

I can't wait for this film. I onviously love ELijah. But this also satisfies my other interest: the assassinations of great men. I wonder if it will compare to the prequel though...

Primula_Baggins has an interesting "summary" of the facts we know about "Bobby" so far:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/primula_baggins/153271.html#cutid1
It is surprising that we do not even know who is playing Robert Kennedy.
I havenīt heard much of Emilio Estevez during the last years, so hopefully this will be a great comeback for him ...

hey sabine. maybe you could change the name of this thread to "bobby" or something like it. i was serching to find a thread about this movie, and finally found it.
anyway, according to IMDb, elijah's character's name is william, and it's slated to come out august 2006.
here's the poster for the movie.

sorry it's so tiny, but if you look close enough, you'll see lij's name there.
*woot*

hmm... i'm wondering if emilio is directing this like the movie JFK. some evidence is making it seem that way as stated on this thread.
we all know or at least have an idea of what happened that day with bobby kennedy, so he may be just a figure passing by or seen from a distance or from behind. we may not see the person playing bobby. emilio may mingle in real clips of bobby along with his own filming. this movie is focusing on other lives that went on during the assassination and the effect it had on them.
just a thought.

Oh yes, and I love movies with huge and full of talent casts... as for example in Love Actually. There are no many chances to see all these great actors working together.
And Deenan thanks for posting the poster, I hadnīt seen it before.

I always keep forgetting the name of this thread..
Dee, that sounds plausible, I was thinking a similar thing, perhaps part of the film will be sort of like a documentary.
Thank you for the poster. Quite a shocking image to begin with.

Whoa! Already a poster, and you can actually see Elijah's name on the front of it!! Woohoo!
But...I don't like the way that poster looks. As far as I've heard that was a terrible assassination of a great person, and they make it look like some dead guy in an Ocean's Eleven poster. Like it's cool or something. Not that I know anything about Emilio Estevez or what he has in mind as to where he's taking this movie... but I'll stop talking right now before I get stupid.
After this, that negative article and all the "bling bling" casting going on, I'll just hope stronger that this will be a good movie.

try not to worry about the poster blue star.
i'm not too crazy about the fact they have a dead guy on it, but these things change all the time.
just so long as elijah's name stays on it...
