In light of the big recession hitting Hollywood, stalling even big-budget films, I'm worried about this film being postponed or canceled.

Remember Elijah was originally cast in the movie THUMBSUCKER -(eventually made with Lou Pucci in the title role), but pre-production dragged on interminably and in the end both Elijah and director Mike Mills decided he was too old to play a seventeen year old.
that was kinda ironic reasoning, given that Elijah can still pass for a guy half his age. it was for the best that he wasnt involved in that movie though, i suppose.

in an recent magazine article that can be seen here, elijah says he's still waiting to start this film.
i also read from another article somewhere on the same thing, that the Iggy Pop project may never happen. that writers strike threw everything out of whack in Hollywood, so the studios want a sure thing to recover from the blow. now is not really a good time for indie flicks trying to get off the ground.

i've always been a bit ambivalent about this Iggy project, mostly because, as much as i admire Elijah's work and talent, i'm afraid he's not quite the guy for this role. for one thing he looks nothing like Iggy much less sound like him. ultimately i'm afraid that this project might do Elijah in, be that big mistake that Elijah has luckily been able to avoid so far in his career. maybe i'm just afraid that its such a big, wreckless risk, although i must say its roles like these that really pushes the envelope and gives an actor a whole different kind of recognition. i had the same fears for Daniel Radcliffe with that Equus play and it actually turned into his favor. i'm hoping that my fears for Elijah as Iggy is just that-- fears-- and that this Iggy role will do for Elijah what Equus did for Dan.
