^ Gee, I hope I got that right.

My God, this looks very huge. The cast is simply amazing. Oddly enough, had Lij not mentioned it I would never have learned about it.

Orlando Bloom would also be in it... along with Natalie Portman, Juliette Binoche, and Dustin Hoffman among others!

I wonder why Elijah's name is not mentioned. And which segment he would be in. And when he would start filming in Paris?

Quote:
Plot Summary for
Paris, je t'aime (2006) Release Date: Dec 31, 2006 in France

Paris, je t'aime is about the plurality of cinema in one mythic location: Paris, the City of Love. Twenty filmmakers will bring their own personal touch, underlining the wide variety of styles, genres, encounters and the various atmospheres and lifestyles that prevail in the neighborhoods of Paris. Each director has been given five minutes of freedom, and we, as producers, carry the responsibility of weaving a single narrative unit out of those twenty moments. The 20 films will not appear in the order of the arrondissements, from one to twenty, but rather, in a pertinent narrative order, initially unknown to the audience. They will be fused together by transitional interstitial sequences, and also via the introduction and epilogue sequences of the feature film. Each transition will begin with the last shot of the previous film and will end with the first shot of the following film, and will have a threefold function: 1) The first is to extend the enchantment and the emotion of the previous segment, 2) The second is to prepare the audience for the surprise of the next segment, and 3) The third is to provide a general, comfortable and cohesive atmosphere to the feature film. The delightful and brief interludes of these transitions will enable the viewer to slide from one world to the next, featuring a recurring and unexpected character. This mysterious character is a witness to the Parisian life and helps create a continuous narration. It appears both in and in-between the films. In addition to the information these transitions will provide about the city and its people, their tone will be intentionally light often referring to famous scenes easily attributed to the history of Paris cinema. Similar specifications will be followed by the composer who will supervise the musical fusion between the films and the transitions as he creates the musical score of Paris, je t'aime. Considering the common theme of Paris and Love, the fusion between the films and the transitions, the fast pace of a fluid and complete storytelling, Paris, je t'aime will not be just another "anthology" picture. It will be a unique collective feature film that will constitute a two-hour cinematographic spectacle whose original structure will make for a dramatically different experience for its global audience.

IMDB lists True (2004) as a movie connection. Is anyone familiar with it or the material for Paris, je t'aime?

This looks like a massive production. Just look at the cast and the list of directors. The Coen brothers and Gus Van Sant are some of the best directors around. I'm a huge fan of Gus Van Sant so I really would like Elijah to work with him.

I have no idea why Elijah isn't mentioned on the cast list, but the fact that he mentioned it, proves that he will be in the film. Only a very small part has already been filmed so I'm sure we'll get more news about it soon.

I don't think this has anything to do with "Paris, je t'aime" though I do look forward to that as well. I love the book so I expect a lot from the film.

I ask the question about Elijah and Paris Je t'aime yesterday on IDBM forum, but I haven't got a answer for the moment.

Is it not Orlando Bloom who maybe play in The Perfume?
I love the name of the character : Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. Grenouille means Frog in English

No, Orli will play the part of Eli in "Paris, Je t'aime" according to imdb.

The link between "The Perfume" and "Paris, Je t'aime" is just one of the directors, Tom Tykwer. Apparently, his part in "Paris..." has already been filmed because of the fact that he had to start working on "The Perfume".

Yes, but I read a few months ago in a cinema magasine, that Orlando will play the character of Jean-Baptiste, I didn't know the actor had changed.

Orli would have been a really bad choice for the part of Jean-Baptiste. JB was said to be an ugly man and Orli is beautiful.

Ben Whishaw is going to play the part now (never heard of him before).

Perhaps Elijah had just found out he was going to be in this film when he mentioned it to Jo Whiley and the IMDb listing hasn't been updated yet.  Sure sounds like an incredible film.

That's plausible. Maybe they're not even through with casting yet.

Here are some more tidbits I got from Google...

From the Kicking the Hobbit article we all love:

Quote:
First though, after his Edinburgh premiere, and a London premiere, and no doubt more missed gigs, he was off to France. He's filming a part in Paris, Je T'Aime, a collection of 20 shorts on the subject of love in Paris, directed by a host of different directors including The Coen Brothers and Gus Van Sant. "I feel really honoured just to be part of it."

I wondered if he actually filmed something while he was there? or if he's even done filming? Hmmm... a one-day shoot in the midst of the press shebackle... what an amazing feat if that's actually what happened.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer...

Quote:
We'll always have Paris. An ambitious omnibus project, Paris, je t'aime, in production now and set for release next year, offers 20 five-minute shorts, each named for, and situated in, one of Paris' 20 arrondissements, or precincts. The lineup of non-French actors set for the respective chapters is impressive: Orlando Bloom, Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Gael Garcia Bernal, Javier Bardem, Isabella Rossellini, Gena Rowlands, Steve Buscemi, Bob Hoskins, and Ben Gazzara. The indigenous crowd isn't anything to sneeze at, either: Juliette Binoche, Fanny Ardant and Ludivine Sagnier among them.

As for the respective filmmakers, they, too, make for a daunting list: Joel and Ethan Coen, Alfonso Cuaron, Alexander Payne, Walter Salles, Tom Tykwer, and Gus Van Sant. The French directing contingent: Olivier Assayas, Gerard Depardieu, and some guy named Jean-Luc Godard.

According to producer EmmanuelBenbihy, Paris, je t'aime is "about the plurality of cinema in one mythic location: Paris, the City of Love." Weaving a central character through the multiple story threads, Benbihy - writing on IMDB.com - says that the project will not be just another "anthology" picture. "It will be a unique collective feature film that will constitute a two-hour cinematographic spectacle whose original structure will make for a dramatically different experience."

From Softpedia...

Gus Van Sant Goes Sci-fi

The famous filmmaker will work on adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's 2003 novel The Time Traveler's Wife.
By: Entertainment News Staff

The 53-year-old American director will work on adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's 2003 novel The Time Traveler's Wife, described as a love story.

The story revolves around man who has a gene that enables him to travel in time and who decides to explore his future life and that of his wife.

The “Elephant” director is currently shooting a short film featuring Orlando Bloom for the multi-director project “Paris je t'aime”, which consists of five-minute films featuring romantic encounters in each of Paris's 20 arrondissements.

Among the other directors involved in the project are Jean-Luc Godard, the Coen brothers, Olivier Assayas, Alfonso Cuaron, Gerard Depardieu, Alexander Payne, Walter Salles, Ettore Scola, Nobuhiro Suwa, Daniela Thomas, Tom Tykwer and Richard LaGravenese. The all-star cast includes famous actors like Steve Buscemi, Willem Dafoe, Gena Rowlands, Ben Gazzara, Natalie Portman, Tim Robbins, Javier Bardem, and Gael Garcia Bernal. Juliette Binoche and Eva Green are also said to appear in the movie.

And lastly from twincities.com...

Quote:
Coen Brothers have new project

It's been a while since we heard from St. Louis Park's favorite sons, Joel and Ethan Coen — they've had no releases since last year's "The Ladykillers"because a mystery project fell apart earlier this year. But they're kicking into gear again. They've completed their section of an omnibus film, "Paris, je t'aime," which features three filmmakers' take on the city of lights, and Variety reported Monday that they've signed up to write and direct an adaptation of the best-selling Cormac McCarthy novel, "No Country for Old Men." It's expected to begin filming next year. — Chris Hewitt

Hmmm... it seems it has been in production for quite a while now... as in since 2001!

PARIS, JE T’AIME Sounds Like A Lot To Love!!
Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
This is the briefest of brief tips, but it’s provocative, and I am curious as all hell about this movie now. I’m just starting to watch WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN because I had a conversation about Almodovar yesterday, and now I’m in the mood, and this just happens to be on one of the grazillion movie channels I have now. I’m in an international mood. Maybe that’s why I find this so incredibly interesting at the moment:
This is new to me today - currently in production is a film called "Paris, Je T'aime" which is 20 short films about love in 20 districts of Paris. Directors include Godard, Woody Allen, Tom Tykwer, Johnny Depp, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Amores Perros). Cast includes Penelope Cruz, Tom Cruise, Gael Garcia Bernal, Charlotte Rampling, and many more.

I’m going trolling for more information about this one. For now, the IMBb shows nothing, and I haven’t seen any other references to it. I’d love to see a complete list of the talent involved, and I hope I can figure out who’s behind the movie, who will ultimately be releasing it.
"Moriarty" out.

And so originally Tom Cruise and his former love, Penelope Cruz were supposed to star in this film.

Cruz to Star in Inarritu, Salles, Trueba Pic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(c) Tele Star
Patrick Frater reports to Screen Daily about an unusual project that has Penelope Cruz and Tom Cruise starring in a multi-segment feature titled "Paris Je T'Aime." A number of acclaimed directors including Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Walter Salles and Spain's Fernando Trueba have been tagged to each direct a five minute piece.

Berlin - Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz are expected to board an unusual project where the city of Paris is the star. The picture, Paris Je T’Aime, is being put together by Novem, a Franco-US production company headed by Emmanuel Benbihy and Mel Gee Henderson. Structured as a portmanteau, the film-makers have invited a number of different directors to make five minute shorts in each of the French capital’s 20 "arrondissements." The unifying theme is the vague notion of "falling in love."

Cruise and Cruz are keen to star as a famous couple hounded by Mexican tourists as they walk round the 4th arrondissement in a segment made by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
"We have been overwhelmed by the ballooning interest in our picture and the international talent which has put itself forward to become involved," said Benbihy. The project had originally been intended to be ready by Cannes and made on a budget of Euros 5m. Now the budget has grown to Euros 8m and delivery seems scheduled for mid 2004.

Other directors including Brazil’s Walter Salles, China’s Jiang Wen, Japan’s Nobohiro Suwa, The UK’s Tim Roth and Spain’s Fernando Trueba are also on board. Three segments have already been shot by Tom Tykwer, Agnes Varda and Sally Potter. All directors are being paid exactly the same, their crew choices are limited to first assistant and cast, while they are also limited to a set amount of film stock – as well as the producer’s commitment to quality and the filming of links between all the segments.

Wonder what was the cause for the delay?

Synopsis: Have you ever found love on the steps of Montmartre or on the banks of the Seine? You're welcome, Carina and Leentje!

I've finally found the True connection.

Here's a photo gallery of Natalie Portman while she was fiming in Paris. According to this, ""True", directed by Tom Tykwer from the short-films collection "Paris, je t'aime". Filmed in Paris for 4 days from August 6th until 9th of 2002."

Now if only I can read Polish.

Paris, je t'aime (2004)
Jako: Francine
To film prezentujący 4 dni z pobytu całej ekipy w Paryżu w dniach 6-9 sierpnia 2002 roku. To krótki, 25-minutowy film kręcony w każdej z 20 dzielnic stolicy Francji. Zapowiada się całkiem ciekawa propozycja, którą jednak może być trudno zobaczyć w Polsce.

And here's her picture....

There's more photos here...

And info here...

Oh, ok. So this segment has been screened in Germany already according to this little blurb...

Quote:
Honorable mention:

Paris, je t’aime - This will probably be an art house success that might have some crossover to a mainstream audience. Twenty directors have been selected to each shoot a five minute segment about Paris and love. A back story will link all of the segments after they are filmed. The Coen brothers have done a segment with Steve Buscemi. Jean-Luc Godard is doing a segment. And the segment done by Tom Tykwer starring Natalie Portman has screened in Germany already, and people are saying that it is one of the most beautiful things they have seen. While not for everyone, this movie will be an indie highlight of next year.
