Yes, I agree with Deenan. It is a very original story with brilliant performances, and although Elijah´s part is short, the movie itself worths to be watched.

I third this. He does a very nice job with his role (plus I thought he looked good too, of course me being a fan of the buzz), but the more I see this movie, the more I watch it for Joel and Clementine's relationship and everything else that's going on in the movie, and I would probably still like it regardless of whether Elijah is in it or not. Not that he doesn't have an impact in the movie.
There are lots of reviews on this movie that shine light on how convincing Elijah's performance was.

I can only agree with the comments above Eternal Sunshine is a huge favourite of mine - the whole cast is great and Elijah plays his role very well.

ESOTSM is a beautiful film! You really have to see it. The acting is brilliant, the music soft and nice, the story heartbreaking!

ESOTSM is an unusual film and Elijah plays a good "jerk" in it.
I really wanted to punch him......... ( no kidding. that's how GOOD he played his annoying character!)

Well, i finally saw that movie, and i like it so much....its a bit complicated though  ...but who agree with me that if we tear Elijah's part in that movie it would be better   ?
i don't know but Patrick was a total mistake

Yes, I agree f.r.o.d.o. although Elijah's role was relatively small... In ESOTSM, Patrick tries to gain the affections of Clementine by underhanded and unethical means, and Elijah portrays the creepiness, as well as the underlying insecurity of his character quite well... 
However, in my opinion, this film belongs to Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, who both play against type, and also Tom Wilkinson who is fantastic as always!
Director Michel Gondry has crafted a multi-layered, sometimes confusing, but deeply touching film here!

I loved this film. This could be my second favorite EW movie. I love him in the trillogy but this was just a really neat film!
He was adorable to boot! 
The whole cast was good and I loved Kate Winslette's performance, she did a good balance of juggling drama with a bit of comedy. I really like her.
But your right Gem EW's character is kind of a creep.
