I've seen some of that movie once and I remember the ending especially was sad. Bittersweet. I of course had no idea of the kid. I ought to watch that.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY. That has to be the most heart-wrenching, convincing performance he ever gave. Remembering back really makes me a bit depressed, because I'm worried about just not caring about Elijah anymore (hence the making of this thread), and things before Lord of the Rings are miles more refreshing and real than after.
I haven't gotten around to renting any movies yet, been busy, but I think I'll check out Radio Flyer and Huck Finn. Anyone know if Oliver Twist is any good?

I just got to watch The War too, and he was very impressing. Now i also want to see Radio Flyer, but i can't get a DVD Version of this movie.
I also watched The Ice Storm and this film is added to my favourites too. His acting was very outstanding though he underplayed his character and didn't have much scene.
You are right. As i said before, i think his roles BEFORE LOTR are much better, different and refreshing. His best role after LOTR is Jonathan from Everything is illuminated IMO. I'm looking forward to OM and Day Zero, bc they seem very interesting. And of course the Passenger (if it will ever be made...)

I think being different, going against the grain of society is the greatest thing in the world.

^ He drove me crazy in that film. I was so gaga. I think his best pre-LOTR performances are "The Good Son", "The War", and "Huck Finn". Honestly, I've been liking his post-LOTR choices even better.

Hey there
Before LOTR I think my fave films that he did well in were
1. Radio Flyer
2. Huck Finn
3. The War
He acted best in those 3 he was still so young in them and had to convey emotions through his roles which he did with total believability.
