So it's been almost 3 years since the movie came out.
The dust has settled. The actors have moved on. Who has read the books and is STILL very passionate about LOTR........why?

I have actually almost all the Tolkien's LotR books and books related to that. The world or Arda (that's Valinor and Middle-Earth altogether) is just too wide, deep and high. Whenever I read the stuff I can always find something new that I even did'nt notice the first time. Tolkien was a genius.

I'm still just as much in love with them as I was first time. And that's part of the reason why I love the movies, one big another part is Elijah.

Thatīs an interesting question...
I love the movies, of course, and Elijah as Frodo over all, but I loved the books before and still love them. So the LOTR spirit is still alive for me.

FMH: I tend to have a touch of OCD about some things and followed Star Wars for a time after the first trilogy and collected every VHS tape to do with the making of movie, including the making of books, etc and followed the actors careers for a time.  That waned eventually and I never liked any of the SW book series so maybe there was nothing to feed my obsession.

With this, I donít really know except to say Iíve always been a huge Hobbit/LOTR book fan and the movie just cemented that; the LOTR was the one movie I never believed could be made with real people and it was fascinating watching it come to life on screen. For me however, the commentaries made all the difference because it made me feel a personal connection to the actors and others working on the film. Having said that, I will admit I am surprised that my interest has continued at this level.

Well, Elijah himself described the difference of making of beetween SW and LotR with something like that he saw that the making of SW was clean and sterile, and editing was all along and making LotR was more soiled and striking. Yeah, and of course people on set were and are still very close.

The comment was something like that. He said in on Conan's show. He decribed these two events pretty much different.

I am shocked.... , youve not finished it, who are you Elijah Wood?

Anyway my answer to the question is similar to some above, you can always find something new, the first time I read it oh, 20 years ago I couldnt figure it out it took forever to get through it because I kept flipping to the maps.  I read it every year from then on sometimes twice.

I think its the message in the tale that keeps people going back over and over..be it to book or films it draws you back in....how can you not go back and gaze at a world where the smallest is willing to give everything to save his world?

I remain passionately interested because the entire experience of the films and the following friendships and travels have changed my life and change my outlook on life in general.

I now date my life as pre and post LOTR.  It is my hobby my passion, and escape from the real world to one that has been kind to me...and oh yeah....the eye candy isn't bad either.

I'm especially in LotR mood these days. Maybe I'll do few paintings or something, or make a marathon reading them...

Just overall LotR. Because it's fun. And that's another reason.

I cared for the books long before the movies came out. For me, the films are just an additional way to enjoy Tolkien's masterpiece. I re-read the books every year, usually start during the Christmas holidays. This year will not be any different.

So you have the same habit as Christopher Lee? I have thought of starting that, too.

Yes, so it seems  The first couple of years, I always re-read LOTR during the summer holidays but I switched to Christmas. I guess it's because it's also the time the movies came out.
