I think when you put on your own mascara it tends to show, but you haven't seen what makeup experts for a big photoshoot can do. They can make any kind of makeup look natural, because they are the best in the world, and the makeup artists have a lot of techniques of putting mascara on your eyelashes and all it looks like is dark eyelashes.
But on second thought, his eyelashes do always look dark and long, but the emphasis in the picture on his eyelashes has to be more than just natural, or you wouldn't notice it as much.

maybe his lashes are just dyed...
but i don't think so... I think his lashes are natural dark... So long and beautiful....

Eyeliner and black hair like that makes him look really hot. But hey, that's my opinion. Very yummy.

Yes, he is wearing mascara in that "closed eyes" pic. He is also wearing mascara in the FOTR "Prancing Pony" scene when he is fondling the ring with his eyes closed.

don´t be so sure...I rather think they work-over the pics and movie sequences digitally.
The eye-lashes look natural...Lij has got my envy, be sure.
Here a pic of the eye-lashes of my ten years old son: (be sure, no mascara):
I´m sure, a bit digital grading and they woul look like Lij´s...
