A little worried...

I know Elijah's going to be playing Iggy Pop, and I'm afraid of him trying to get into the role by messing around with drugs like Iggy. Or getting really distressed by the part like they say Heath Ledger was during Batman. It probably sounds stupid, but two big actors have died in one month. I don't want anything to happen to Elijah.

gosh! i'm sure elijah will never get that into a role! i can't possibly see elijah actually taking drugs for any film, but stressing out could be a factor.
we can't really know what kind of elements will be involved during shooting for this kind of intense character, but he's been at this for years, and knows what comes with the territory.
don't worry too much. i'm sure he'll be just fine.

Deenan's absolutely right, Elijah's a pro, and I think he's much too grounded to try drugs for the sake of a part. It is an interesting part to play, possibly will be a little distressing, but he knows better than to let that get the better of him.

i actually think being stressed might be a good thing and that is part of what drives any actor to do their best work, that fear of failing or desire to suceed. I think Elijah has been working towards this for some time what with the weight loss and muscle toning and probably in other ways we don't know about. I think he can do it.

OMG ! I am sure,Elijah cannot take drugs.He know very well whats good or bad ! I think,there isn't any reason to worry ...

I hope you girls are right; I understand January's concern. Didn't Elijah start smoking just because he was hanging out with someone else who did it?

He was also very young and naive at the time. He's older and wiser now, and especially in light of River Phoenix and now Heath Ledger, I really don't think he'll try drugs.
My guess is that he'll watch drug users to see how they act under the influence; that's what I'd do anyway.

Elijah has too many close friends in lotr to watch out for him and of course his mum, sister and brother too. Plus he is too level headed to do drugs I think, I shouldn't worry

Also i think i heard in a interview (can't remember where or when) that he tends to leave his characters on set and detaches from them when he goes home. so even with a character like iggy i wouldn't worry about

I don't know if he has personally tried to quit, but in the commentary on the FotR DVD, he does say "I have a smoking problem. Please, do not smoke."

At least he acknowledges he has a problem and tells others not to smoke that is a good thing to say, maybe his friends will help him quit

elijah is not the type to take drugs. dont worry! he even said that it was stupid to take drugs and throw your life away, elijah said that! so no worrys!
