Elijah Wood is a hard Hobbit to break. Although he will be Frodo forever from "Lord of the Rings," don't expect him to diss Middle Earth.
"I can only say it's refreshing to work on something again that's character-driven and small, although I do miss the Golum," Wood says, joking.
He's currently starring in the indie film "Green Street Hooligans," while his other fall film, "Everything Is Illuminated" comes down the pike Friday.
HERE'S WHAT ELIJAH WOOD HAD TO SAY:
"I'd be lying if I said 'Lord of the Rings' didn't change my entire life and career. Now it's a marker for me when it comes to making decisions. 'Rings' wasn't just a movie; it was an experience. I don't want to just make a ton of movies. I want great experiences."
"I worked with first-time director Liev Schreiber for 'Everything is Illuminated.' It's an incredible achievement for him, one hell of a job. I play a young guy trying to find out about his grandfather's past. Two thirds of the movie is me in a car with the other actor and a dog I'm afraid of, although the dog was cool and I wasn't afraid of him in real life. There are no wizards. No ring. Just talking."
"I also did 'Hooligans,' which I loved because it's about how people change. I start out as an innocent and then turn to violence. How many times do we see this story in real life? You have kids who start out pure and good and then they're influenced by the streets. For me, it was a good choice because people see me as a nice guy. I wanted to explore darker material and show that I can be a tough guy."
"Honestly, I can be tough. Ask anyone. ... OK, I'm not tough on a daily basis, but I have it in me for a movie."
"What kind of movies do I like? I'd say my favorite film is 'Harvey' with Jimmy Stewart. It's a really profound movie, and I gain something every time I watch it. It's about a man who lets go of reality because he's disappointed at the world around him. All of this just manifests itself into a giant white rabbit. I see it as a movie about making choices, and that's a beautiful thing."
"The other day I heard some terrible, sad news that they're remaking 'Harvey.' I said, 'god, no.' It's a sacred classic that was brilliantly done. Why does Hollywood want to mess with things?' "
"Would I do a movie romance? Absolutely. I'm about to do a film where the Coen brothers and Gus Van Sant are each directing. The film is about love in Paris. It's only three days of work for me, but I get to be romantic in Paris. What else do you need?"

They are remaking Harvey? Okay, that is just sacrilege! Why can't Hollywood dig up obscure flops and try to remake them better?

Don't know/understand why, Seven.  Can you imagine Elwood as Rambo or Terminator? Hee hee!  And uhh... I just might but you know my e-mail address, girl, so just rant/review away whenever you please.

I agree with him about the remake thing.. It could be that Jimmy Stuart is one of my favorite actors adn I don't want to see anyone else play his roles, lol.

Cool interview, Blue Angel!! Lij is right!! Paris is a romantic place. My sister enjoyed Paris too much(she visited it last year with her friends)
I never heard of that movie Lij is talking about. Who is Jimmy Stuart?
