I only recognized a few too.  I'm hopeless about titles and bands and stuff.  I recognize more when I hear then though.

Very interesting list- I only know a few of the songs. I am surprised that of all those incredible Prince songs he chooses "When you were mine"....

Thanks for that link, Carina. I was waiting for it the whole week..

Well, I bought this playlist last night. I was planning to buy it no matter what it looked like.

It's interesting. I listened to it one time today (all I've had time to so far).

The Puny Humans and The Fireball Ministry- both of those bands have friends of his in them. I thought both of those songs were rather blah, personally. I really liked the James Chance song. Reminds me a little of James Brown. I also liked the Gang of Four. That is a really good song.
Mr. Sellack and Space Oddity are just plain weird. Space Oddity is done by a school project in Canada, a few decades ago, if I'm right. I love the Prince song that he chose, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I have that album, and haven't listend to all of it , or that song.
I'll definitely be checking out more from Aphex Twin and Chet Baker (very jazzy)

At iTunes, it shows what he says about each song. Does it show that on the links from people's LJ's?

(Silly me, I just checked it, and it does. It's fun to read.  )

Most of them doesn´t sound familiar to me at all...
I guess if one day we meet and have a conversation about music... well that can be crazy, I don´t think he knows many of the bands I listen to (Spanish music, mainly...) and I´ve never heard of his favourite ones...
Well maybe just a good way to start a friendship, learning from each other´s taste...

Hi Kathleen--

I bought the playlist, too. I was on the fence about it b/c I didn't know ANY of the songs and was afraid I'd be disappointed. Then again, I just couldn't resist.  And uh, I needed something new to listen to anyway.

Really I just wanted to get further insight into Elijah's beautiful mind.

What the playlist illustrated to me is my music tastes--Snow Patrol, Dashboard Confessional, Yellowcard, Switchfoot etc.--are so far away from Elijah's eclectic tastes.  LOL.

The more I listen to it, the more I like it though.

I agree on Puny Humans and Fireball Ministry. I also don't care for Space Oddity or Roaches. A few other songs I think I'll like once I get more used to them, like Summer's Gone or the Sly Stone song.

I love the Beach Boys song, God Only Knows. Fearless by Pink Floyd is great. I think Chet Baker and  Aphex Twin are fantastic.   One Blood isn't the song I wanted included from Hooligans (there's another song from one of the trailers I liked, a song of the OLC members pointed out) but I like it, it reminds me of the movie. And I love Gogol Bordello! So spirited.

I should thank Elijah for expanding my mind.

ETA: I also like the Prince song a lot.

So, a purchase well worth it, IMO,

Judy

Elijahfrodo, you can only buy this playlist from iTunes.

Actually, anyone can download iTunes (you don't have to have a Mac). It's free, but I think you need a credit card to buy music. *pimps iTunes*

If you look at the list, you might be able to listen to samples of some of these songs at Amazon.com. I think they have samples of music there, or at other sites.

At least that way you can hear some samples of the songs.

I bought the playlist as well. Not familiar with a number of them, but I really enjoy recommendations of others. The top sellers are rarely worth hearing so I need to rely on word of mouth. Now there is So much on the internet to choose from. This is good.

And when you listen to someone else's recommendation it Does give you an insight into them doesn't it. Worth the price for sure.

Life goes better with music.
